Are you kidding? The disturbing nature of this scene is due to the fact that it take away everything that makes us feel safe and ends before we see what happens next. Alien encounters are always alone in the dark in the country. This scene destroys that trope. Now it is in an urban area during the day with other people around. A scenario we would normally feel safe is no longer safe. The scene is more effective because we don't know what happens to everyone at the party.
