Why the hell can't Universal and Warner Bros figure out how to make a cinematic universe? What exactly are they not understanding? Is it because they think people care more about continuity than quality?
>>83724575
But I work here :(
I honestly think that casting Brendan in this would have saved the movie, a lot of people outside the US like and remember him from the past Mummy movies, and im not talking about giving him Cruise's role, just cast Brendan as an ally or maybe cast Tom as the villain.

They didn't try to remake the light hearted action adventure Mummy movies. They were basing this movie on the classic universal horror mummy movies.
Another classic example of a studio trying to kickstart a shared-universe franchise rather than just making a fucking enjoyable movie.

But the other guy that was the chosen died really easy
Did they even have anyone look this over before they started filming?
This thing doesn't even take place in Egypt. It's 15 minutes in northern Iraq and the rest of the film is in British land
>>83727432
Because they don't understand that making a cinematic universe should always be secondary to making coherent movie that can stand on it's own. They do it the other way around
>>83728460
But
>>83728351
is right. Boutella did a great job acting. She really is very pretty. And she made the mummy seem sinister and believable. She got a good ammount of screen time and did a great job as the mummy. I'm not gonna pretend she was like Joker in Dark Knight. Her role wasn't like that. But she was like Joker in that your eyes were definitely on her and she was clearly the one you were watching.
She's cute. Mummy a cute.
Movie wasn't bad. I was never bored. Some decent if cliched horror aspects. But the ending doesn't work for me. It was actually reasonably well paced in that every scene moved the plot forward basically. But the problem is that it was clearly a vehicle for Tom Cruise. So where is the tension if every major stunt involves the main character? It's tom cruise running from things and Sofia Boutella looking good. There are enough creepy moments and decent stunts but you've seen bits and pieces of every major set piece in trailers.
not a bad movie. Not a great movie. Worth watching if you really want to see Sofia Boutella looking cute and being surprisingly sinister. She did a great job.
>>83736843
The problems with the movie have nothing to do with the cinematic universe. Everything and everyone in this movie has a place and moves the plot forward. Remarkably well edited for pacing actually. That's a strong point.
The problem is-- you never feel cruise or the other girl is in danger. There is no one else to "feel" for. Many of the stunts were shown on TV already.
Weird desire to inject some bits of humor.
The Mummy's plan is in some sense fatally flawed. For a movie that holds your hand with exposition, the subtle/adult part of the Mummy's plan was never fully disclosed so the ending feels incredibly cheep like "that was your plan? You had 5k years to think this through and that's the best you can come up with?" Mummy should've won this one. But it's a cruise movie so he has to be a hero. also, Cruise, as a character, was developed poorly. He was supposed to be some shady untrustworthy person but he's basically a nice guy and there is never really any reason to believe otherwise except him stealing a map. Which he didn't need to do in the 21st century. He could've taken a cell phone shot of the map. It's really quite stupid.the mummy needed cruise to fall in love with her because when she stabbed him with the dagger he wouldn't become fully posessed he would be only partially possesed. but Cruise loved Anabelle watt's character more so he becomes super powerful and angry at mummy for killing his one night stand BAE. When in reality Mummy could've taken dagger and found any guy on the street to become an avatar of set since she's hot and people of poor morals would've pledged themselves to her I'm sure. It was a terrible plan to leave some guy who's mind you couldn't break with godlike powers. Also, she stopped trying to mind control him at the worst time.
>>83728815
>an Aunt May standalone movie
Sony deserves to go under. Or it's actively trying to go under.
