we go to know both laura and maddy through seasons 1-2 + FWWM. The women shown now who have died are just to show off a plotpoint or another character. and that's alright, not every woman in fiction who gets raped or killed needs to have a huge backstory if the creator wants to tell a completely other story. Guess what, his political affiliations don't mean shit when he is encouraging violence towards women. I was uneasy with the new season, but after episode 5 I'm honestly unsure how much more I can take. To portray a man physically assaulting a woman like that, and have her seem to enjoy it. It's just sick. He's saying that women enjoy being assaulted when he films scenes like this (and this particular one is NOT his first). He gives that message off a lot, that you can get attractive women by being a violent psycho to them.

"I'm an old-fashioned guy" doesn't really cut it anymore. David Lynch is very talented, but I'm really starting to feel that he's not a good influence on society. Which would be one thing if it was just his personal life, but his message of violent behavior towards women is loaded in his work too.

Your post is entirely invalidated because my issue is the women being drawn to this. All the time in his work. Women are drawn to violent psychos. It's ok to behave towards women in this manner, it might be illegal but deep down that is what they want. That's a theme behind a lot of his work. Twin Peaks was tame compared to his other stuff being a network show, but I'm very disappointed to see these themes seeping into Season 3.
