unlike fantasy shows, you can't just film it in hills and make shitty prop villages in new zealand that you reuse, it pretty much has to be entirely cgi and it has to look good on top of that

Space ship scifi shows are done because you can reuse sets.

A mini-series type show with less than 8 episodes a season could MAYBE recuperate it's costs if it did well.
