If your premise includes a superhero it really limits the potential of the story. 7 is probably best you could ever achieve.

This.

The degree to which this is being overrated is incredible. It's an OK movie, the first non-shite DCEU movie, but it's a successful female-lead movie so of course everyone is creaming about it. In truth is about as good as Thor, if that.

During this movie, as a red herring of sorts, we see Dr. Maru giving Ludenhorff an inhalant that appears to make him stronger including right before his fight with Wonder Woman. There is very little good reason for these scenes, other than to poorly misdirect the viewer, and there could have been better ways of doing so than by cryptic, unexplained chemical inhalant. Which lead me to suspect that the chemist has developed and is supplying Ludenhorff with an early version of the drug which will later be known in the DC universe as Venom. As Dr. Maru survives the film it seems feasible that she, or her research might still be active in Germany during WW2 and that following that war many Nazi party members fled Europe. It is a reasonable leap from there that some of them may have sought shelter in the corrupt island nation of Santa Prisca (birthplace of Bane) and brought with them the secrets of the drug.

>>
>>83678140
Style, music and some of the fight scenes were impecable in WW. I'd say it matches up in terms of style and might even beat Watchmen in terms of being a "round" movie, for lack of better expression. Watchmen has probably more to offer in terms of depth, but WW stands its ground in that department as well imho even though it doesn't spell it out (or maybe even due to that).
>>
>>83678120
>Def better than Logan
I'm curious - what about it did you think was better? It's not that I majorly disliked Wonder Woman - I just don't quite follow why people are this excited about it.
>>
>>83678269
Not him, but it features an actual godlike superhero. Plus the score was fucking amazing.
>>
>>83678259
Honestly don't mean to drag out the point, but what were the hidden depths of Wonder Woman? It seemed pretty straightforward.
>>
>>83678218

>>
I don't get it. Did everyone else see the same movie as me? Cliché, badly acted (Pine excepted), 40% bullet time... I cringed so hard at quite a few scenes and a lot of the dialogue was just shocking. And don't get me started on the Ares "twist"... I wanted to love it. It just wouldn't let me.
>>

>>83678015

>>
>>83678342
Yeah it was... I don't know; the whole god-power discourse. It wasn't really spelled out. Her whole view on humanity whenever she witnesses civil life... All that is depth or well constructed hint to it imo. Don't know.
>>

>>
>>83677887
>I think it's out there at the top with Watchmen
Watchmen isn't a superhero movie.
>>
It wasn't bad, it was good. Not great, but good.

It's just being hyped because it's 1) a DCEU movie that isn't shit, and 2) a female lead in a super hero movie that isn't shit
>>
3/5.
Best DCinematic Universe film to date, surprised how much I like Gadot in the role despite being surrounded by pros so obviously beyond her in the acting department, but suffered from some third act problems/the CGI overload "final boss" moment that plagues every other blockbuster these days, and some of the slow-mo CGI fight scenes felt a bit cringy. Not the best superhero movie ever made, but very likeable and on the right track, shines especially during the character moments but (as it is with a lot of these movies) the action scenes just fail to get you involved.

Because come on, they aren't capeshit movies. The whole superhero aspect is kept down to the bare minimum to keep the fanboys happy but not relevant for enjoyment. My fucking mom loved Dark Knight and she gets triggered by everything super natural.

Wow. Great point.

Name this movie:

A Spy/Agent ends up working with a warrior who's both innocent but also has a destiny and a weapon to defeat the embodiment of evil that's looking to destroy the world with the help of a weapon maker. In the end, the 'weapon' that they believe will stop this evil isn't the true weapon to stop evil, the warrior herself is the weapon and she defeats evil through the power of love.

>>
>>83678912
He, along with the rest of the supporting cast, really elevated her performance in acting the straight men to her fish out of water and obvious lack of acting talent. Not that she did badly, she's a godess in the role, but hardly the Thespian. This film would not have worked as well as it did if not for Pine, Danny Huston, David Thewlis (always a pleasure) Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner or Lucy Davis, so hardly a one woman show.

One part that just seemed weird to me was after she kills the General with her sword she leaves it on the roof of the tower where she finds out who Ares really is. Then she goes to reach for her sword and remembers she left it on the roof, the next scene she's just jumping back down off the roof with sword in hand, what was the point of that? More stylistically and emotionally heightened and pack full of background details and his trademark camera angles. What's good is the character focus. This wasn't a movie where Diana solves war by punching it in the face. Instead she's confronted with the worst aspects of humanity and opts to fight to preserve us.

It's not exciting by capeshit standards, but it explores the heroic ideal

Ruined the movie for me.

But she doesn't solve war. She beats Ares. And without the gas, the armistice is allowed to happen. But that doesn't magically make humanity stop fighting. That doesn't stop WWII from happening later. Or whatever war is happening that Superman interrupts in BvS.

That's the whole point. She thinks if she fights Ares, that she will solve all war, but that's not what happens

Wouldn't call him milquetoast. He's a fantastic villain in Fargo. He's just not physically imposing enough to be the Greek god of war. Their gods had massive gains. If they were supposed to be pure tacticians, Thewlis might work better, but Ares is meant to be the first guy who fought someone, according to this film

>>83690634
It definitely felt more humanistic and warm, but there were plenty of parts in Wonder Woman where I felt they were being a bit too obvious, like with all the portentous foreshadowing in the beginning. I'd give Snyder credit for not putting to fine a point on his movies, I did like the whole "It's not about deserve, it's about what you believe, and I believe in Love" bit, but the urge to sum up the movie in a snippet of dialogue for easy consumption is something Snyder would've avoided.
>>
>>83690819
Yes, it wasn't perfect but it was better than MoS. And actually, Snyder loves to beat you over the head with expositional dialogue all the fucking time, while also shoving some symbolic imagery down your throat.
>>
>>83690973
>Snyder loves to beat you over the head with expositional dialogue all the fucking time, while also shoving some symbolic imagery down your throat.

I think he's pretty even handed though, like in BvS it felt like Lex, Bruce, and Clark's warring interpretations of their world were all given equal weight. He lets each of them be wrong in their own ways, and doesn't force audience sympathy too far in one direction.

Well, we don't know, but what she realizes in her talk with Ares is that all he did was a little pushing, mankind has all that shit inside themselves. Then, what she realized after seeing Steve's sacrifice was that they're also capable of noble things when they have the right influence.
So, killing Ares isn't a definitive end to all wars, just a source of conflict.
>>
>>83693892
Why are you quoting yourself? Those question were all pretty stupid
>>
>>83680430
>Why was Ludendorf taking pills that made him stronger?
Because Maru gave them to him, and he's addicted to power.

>Why did he shoot an officer in the face, in front of his already demoralized troops?
Because he's a despot and he was losing it, under the influence of Ares.

>Why did he test his new gas that could destroy gas masks on civilians without masks?
It was a show, and it was the nearest town to the people he intended to show it to.
>>
>>83684212

You nailed it anon. I really like the focus on Diana's character in the movie. Like for example when she's on the front and see the horrors of war (wounded soldiers, civilians fleeing etc) and she wants to help but is powerless to do so.

It was very satisfying to see when she manages to get to the enemey's camp to fight and then help civilians in the city. And then what do you see afterwards people being grateful for her help.

Dc's Superman lacked those kind of moments.
>>
>>83694210
>And then what do you see afterwards people being grateful for her help.
Yeah, compare this single scene of WW helping people and the montage of Superman helping people in BvS and you'll see why pretty much everybody likes this movie better.
>>
>>83679718
How on earth is that an unreasonable question?
>>
>>83678036
Besides all that fanfic, the inhalant was to set up WW mistaking him for Ares. We knew it wasn't him 'cause we saw him taking that shit, but she didn't. It was to slightly reinsure her in her somewhat naive perception of things, only to shatter it a second later by revealing her who Ares really was.

I'm going to say it has something to do with the time it was set in.
