I've been at casting calls where models show up and read lines. Mixed bag.

The model-as-actor trend falls into the same category as the newer "social media star"-as-actor trend. It's all about pulling an audience and a fanbase is an almost guaranteed audience. I don't necessarily agree with it, but it makes sense.
