He was too OP and they didn't know what they were dealing with. Sheev was probably one of, if not the most, powerful Sith to ever exist. Also, I think they were intending to take him in rather than execute him there.

Friendly reminder that Sheev allowed Windu to overpower him for two reasons: the first was to complete Anakin's turn to the Dark Side. The second was to level up his Sith lightning. Plagueis mentioned to him decades ago that to master the technique, he would have to be on the receiving end of it. He knew how Windu fought (by using other's strengths against them). It was the perfect opportunity to accomplish both.

I saw that explanation too and o think it is shit. Palpatine was a meticulous planner who was always a step ahead. He could even get glimpses of the future occasionally, and he knew his enemy. There's no way he doesn't see Windu coming and how all of it would play out.

you're right about him planning for Anakin to turn to the Dark Side right here. He ALREADY told Anikin he was a Sith Lord. He was gambling on Anikin saving him. A gamble that payed off like most of his gambles.

well it's worth noting the that at the time, the number of people who had actual life or death dueling experience against a Sith could be counted on one hand. Windu, Anikin, and Sheev being 3 of them. (Yoda and Obi being the other two. There might be more but thats with other canon)

the only lightsaber most Jedi had to worry about were from other rogue Jedi.
