Size in the context of longsword means something different from what it does for say, wrestling or boxing.

HEMA people know that it's height and reach that give you an advantage, not weight. It means you can do bigger lunges, you can out-range them, and you can also go over their guard.

The ideal longsword fighter is lean and lanky, quick but also having a lot of reach. A long pace between your legs also gives you a massive lunge.

For reasons that GRRM probably intended, hammers, and big blunt weapons in genera,l are kinda synonymous with big guys with a lot of brute strength.
