Do you guys remember body horror? Whatever happened to it?
It became torture porn
>>83648529
things changed
>>83648529
Cronenberg cornered the market.
>>83648529
Give me some body horror recommendations, /tv/
The more obscure, the better
I've seen most of Cronenberg's work and The Thing, and that's it
>>83649753
Tetsuo: The Iron Man
>>83649753
Society
From Beyond
Street Trash
>>83648529
The Void
Squirm remake
>>83649753
Tokyo Gore Police
>>83648529
>dude look at our special effects lmao
>so gross! are you scared yet?
Complete trash genre unless you shoehorn The Thing in there.
>>83649753
The Blob (1988) is severely underrated.
>>83650749
Fuck, I forgot to add it to the list
That movie scared the shit out of me as a kid
>>83648675
But I hate torture porn and I love body horror!
What about that one movie with jeff goldblum in it; jurassic park or something
>>83648529
People probably lost interest because its oftentimes cheesy and unrealistic. The isolated cases nowadays of comparable body horror are restricted to backwater India and China, so its not very relatable to modern audiences. Most people just think if you had body horror you'd go to the doctor to have it fixed or it would be well documented and less scary.
You could probably do body horror set in a place like Africa with ebola, or relatively recent famous examples like The Ruins with the plants in the legs - but its a pretty niche genre.

No one could even come near The Fly so it just kind of tapered away.

get hyped for bodyhorror-kino
>>83648529
Does this count as body horror?
>>83649938
>street trash
CGI isn't scary.
Also, not a big market. What kind of weirdos wanna watch body horror?
>>83648529
there's the alien prequels
>>83648719
this unfortunately because hollywood can't handle actual horror that is needed for bodyhorror to work. So they saw films that had body horror and though "oh man, that was so creepy, it was because of all the blood and gore!"
>>83648529
"Just CG it".
>>83653772
District 9 is an underrated movie
LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH
there's more than one cronenberg
>>83657160
I remember it being pretty well received.
>>83657160
>sequel fucking never

best body horror soundtrack?

>>83648529
I assume that audiences have become more desensitized, so now it's riskier.
>>83649753
Slither
Brain Damage
Dead Alive
Shivers
Baby Blood
Splinter
The Brood
Scanners
Night of the Creeps
Re-Animator
Basket Case
Rabid
Leviathan
I was able to list four Cronenberg films without using ones already mentioned. You simply can't go wrong with him if you want body horror.
The Stuff and The Incredible Melting Man are also body horror but I don't know if you would find them entertaining because they're bad.
>>83657160
It's literally Avatar except with Apartheid. It's crap.
>>83648529
body horror doesn't work with CG.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYepXJu031E
To modern audiences it seems dated when using practical effects, and it's garbage as CG. As someone who doesn't care about horror movies I don't care what happens to it.
Evil Dead from the sequel onwards made it into a comedy genre. The TV series more so.
>episodes of 'Girls' where Lena Dunham gets naked
>the new Amy Schumer movie
Body horror still exists, anon, you just have to know where to look
>>83657625
Slither is criminally underrated.
>>83648529
Special effects got better and writing became more sophisticated, so "body horror" became obsolete.
>>83653772
>>83657160
>space gas turns you into one of their species
>non-ending
it's overrated if anything
Clown is a new one that has great make-up and effects.
>>83657773
Real weak bait.
>>83648529
cronenberg stopped making them
>>83649938
Society is the quintessential body horror though for sure
>>83659517
>writing became more sophisticated
>>83648529
CGI happened
>>83657625
Splinter made my fucking skin crawl man, loved every bit of it. Really unsettling.
>>83648675
You're right, uneducated hacks got in the format made famous by David Cronenberg and others only to produce crap like Saw and The Human Centipede.
>>83661488
Saw is good though
the sequels not so much
