What's the best way to watch this movie?

Theatrical, directors cut or a fanedit?

There is no Director's Cut.
>>
The one where you don't watch it and do literally anything else with your time.

oh

well, the original or a fanedit?
>>
>On October 8, 2012, it was reported that Fox had requested an extended version of the film for home media, but Scott refused to edit cut scenes back into the theatrical version of the film, which he considered his director's cut.

It doesn't matter; The right scenes were never shot, it doesn't matter what order you put them in or even if you add the deleted scenes.

Just like Blade Runner.

what does that mean?

It means it's just not a great film. It wasn't like Kingdom of Heaven where a great injustice was evidently done. The movie isn't confusing or edited poorly to the extent that a fanedit is required, nor would a theoretical director's cut do much of anything (if the deleted scenes are any evidence). Take it for what it is and don't worry about "getting" it or what could've been.

I like Ridley Scott btw.

that's a shame, was wanting to see a good recent space film

It still has some great moments, and is well made, it just fails overall in terms of narrative. Not much to get out of it in terms of space and/or exploration, though. The Martian would be closer to that, even though it's more of a character drama.

guess i'll try them both, thanks
