Kris Marshall is the Doctor. He will play the Doctor for 3 series. Chibnall will oversee two doctors in total for 6 series. The 14th Doctor they want to be Irish and are in advanced negotiations with Dylan Moran to play the part. After Chibnall leaves the BBC are considering a POC or a woman for the role of the 15th Doctor. Patterson Joseph was suggested by both Chibnall and Moffat to the BBC.

As for what series 11-13 will be about?

Series 11: Is about an ancient Time Lord Prophet ( played by Tom Wlaschiha from game of thrones) he believes he is god leading an apocalyptic cult made up of many species who convert the population and then destroy the converted planet. Chinball is using the four Horsemen of the apocalypse as the theme for this series. The difference? the Horsemen are good. The Doctor, Master, The Monk and Corsair are the four Horsemen who band together near the end of the series to defeat the ''God'' The Corsair is female in this incarnation and survived House, she is introduced early in the series in a guest episode by Gaiman and is being played by Rachel Hurd-Wood, The Monk is played Matt Ryan from Constantine, while the new Master is being played by Stuart Townsend. Not in the literal sense but more of a metaphorical sense.

Series 12 and 13 are still in the early plot mapping stages.

True, I have enjoyed Capaldi's term though. A Doctor that cynical, stubborn and borderline arrogant yet with the same moral values was interesting.

I'm sure that was the intention when they selected him when it comes to scriptwriting etc. Everyone knows he's not the most versatile actor in the world

As a fan of The Thick of It, I thought Malcolm Tucker would be a supreme 12th CAUSTIC Doctor
Spinning and threatening to save the Universe. I suspect that Moffat thought along the same lines but the powers at be at the BBC decided to have him SAVAGE but without the wit.
Caustic but without a clue. This is shown in the 12th Doctors persona

>Clara, am I a good man?

Fuckin hell Doctor you've spent 1000 yrs defending Trenzalore and 1000yrs keeping Earth safe

I get that it's family entertainment, but Capaldi's role feels like he's playing it in a coffin. He's restrained to the point of bondage. It also made 12 out of place by restraining the actor

Most of the words in this vid were adlibed by Capaldi himself and not the writers

>>
>>83651026
Ehh.. Danny's funny. He's actually a really good character — for a Moffat character, he has a surprisingly large amount of substance to him. The only reason we don't like him is because of the situation he was dropped into; he did ruin the pacing and he did ruin what could've been good episodes. Still, as a character, he's actually one of Moffat's better works. Better than Clara, anyways.
>>

>>
>>83651026
I just re watched S8. I thought he was okay the first time around when there was a weeks wait between episodes but I really disliked him this time. He was irritating & all over the place. Pretty much existed to spout some inane bit of 'wisdom' in opposition to whatever the dilemma with the Doctor & Clara was that week. Didn't help that he was portrayed by a mush mouthed amateur actor.

First date he's all "I don't do weird!" & storms out yet after the Doctor/time travel is revealed he passive aggressively claims that Clara keeping this huge secret from him shows what she really thinks of him. As if it's not an understandable thing to keep secret for at least some time? They hadn't been dating long & she'd known the Doctor before meeting Danny. He accuses her of 'eloping with the Doctor when I'm not looking' and won't accept her answer that she loves the Doctor but not in a romantic way. He meets the Doctor & instantly prejudges him just as the Doctor did him, basically hates his guts & doesn't trust him for no credible reason. (This part I liked, believable tension & just like the Doctor he was projecting his own issues there.)

Then he gives her the ultimatum that if the Doctor puts her in a dangerous position that she can't handle & she doesn't tell him about it he'll dump her. Okay. So what does he do when she tells him the Doctor kidnapped a student from their school, took them to the moon, left them both there while forcing Clara to decide the fate of the Earth on her own while arguing with an astronaut who's got armed nuclear bombs & is committed to blowing it up with the three of them still on it? He smiles knowingly and says some Hallmark channel movie nonsense that's the equivalent of 'cool off and then tell him it's over'.

Also didn't buy the way they wrote him as completely nonplussed & uninterested in time/space travel. Overall he was a hamfisted contrivance to create conflict between the Doctor & Clara rather than a believable character.

It is. Davison asked writer of the Necromanteia to be banned from BFA.
Long story short: Peri got bathed in oil and walked brainwashed and naked in caves for awhile, Doctor was beheaded and eaten by witches, Erimem was beaten and raped by the good guy of the story and it was never brought up again.

I had a long break from Doctor Who and have been catching up.

Finished Series 8 just before. I really like Capaldi but the stories are very mixed in quality. Such is Moffat I guess. I surprisingly liked the finale two parter though. Plus the Orient Express episode and the one on the Moon were quite good. The rest was meh.

How are Series 9 and 10 in comparison guys? Also what are the future plans and is the new showrunner taking over promising?

I'm glad Moffat is fucking off finally though. It's been stagnant for years and the lower popularity nowadays shows. I'm more into Classic Who anyway.

>What would an "adult Doctor Who" meaningfully look like?

First of all - Moff shouldn't be so affraid of killing off characters. In Series 1 the only story with no deaths was 'The Empty Child', in every other episode we had an important and well developed side character dying (Clive the conspiracy guy in 'Rose', the Tree bitch in TEOTW etc.) and/or sacrificing themselves.
If Bill died in Lie of The Land it could potentially have been a GOAT episode, the 3 episode build up would actually pay-off.

Second - no more power of love. For example - cyberconversions should be irreversible, Craig overpowering the cybermachinery because of 'muh son' or Bill defeating the Monks because of 'muh mom' is straight out of a fairy tale.
Thirdly : the characters should be forced to do hard choices.

In good stories the hero is forced to choose between a bad choice and an even worse one. In Doctor Who the characters almost always find a magical way out.

The Doctor being forced to choose between wiping his people and letting the Daleks win was mature writing. Clara crying and begging the Doctor to 'j-just p-p-lease not do it it is wrong :(' and the Doctor coming up with a brilliant way out was out of a fairy tale for children, wheere everythings ends well if YOU JUST WANT IT TO VERY VERY MUCH.
>>
>>83667225
you're right but the problem is moff literally regards doctor who like it's a fairy tale, so he would never be the one to pull off an adult doctor who
>>
>>83667289
Fairy tale can be good too. I thought series 5 was stylish and fantastic. It's probably most fairy tale of them all.
>>
>>83667289

a good example of mature writing in whoniverse was Children of Earth. Unlike in the first season, there were no shoehorned romances and sex scenes, no pointless gore and stories ripped from fanfics - the characters went through a lot, they had to face difficult choices, the consequences of their actions mattered. Many of the decisions were morally hard.

The villains were not cartoonish. The current Missy story arc is ridiculous, noone does 'evil things' for the sake of being evil. Hitler thought he was doing the right thing. The terrorists from ISIS think they are fighting against an evil an degenerate civilization.

Good villains should have good reasons for their actions, like Frobisher from CoE had. He was a tragic character who made some shitty choices, he wasn't le evul man.
>>
>>83666714
S9 is similar but better than S8 imo. Less bad stories (although there definitely are some) and a few fantastic ones.
S10 is very different. A few people here have said it's like Moffat doing an RTD style series and I agree. Until recently was on track to be the best of new who. It's still pretty great though and hopefully it'll end well.
I don't know much about future plans in general but the new Showrunner is Chris Chibnall. He wrote:
>42
>The Hungry Earth / Cold Blood
>Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
>The Power of Three
So take that for what you will. He's also the creator of Broadchurch and basically showran the first two series of Torchwood . So the general reaction is either excited for him based on Broadchurch or not excited for him based on Who
I'm kind of excited. It's definitely not the same level of excitement that everyone had when Moffat was announced to be taking over though.
I think Chibbers' stuff will be very character driven based on Broadchurch and his Who episodes, which all feature good ensemble casts. I've not seen Torchwood so I can't comment on that

You might want to start with a different Doctor until you get the feel for the show. I'd recommend starting with 3, when the show first turns into colour.

I love all of Doctor Who with a great passion but even I can get a bit bored with a lot of classic stories. TV's just written differently now; it's more threaded, more complicated, and thus more engaging.
I encourage you to try watching at night time, when you're perhaps tired but not so tired that you'll fall asleep while watching. Find that goldilocks time and watch some 4th Doctor.

Watch just an episode a day, it wasn't made to be bindge-watched.
Or watch the Fourth Doctor's era from the beginning, I thinkit's the most nu-who fans friendy except for late McCoy (which requires you to suffer through season 24 before).

You can just start with 25 and not miss anything really

Because they made a solidly good drama with great characters that happened to have sci-fi trappings and be called Doctor Who.

Series 2 onwards had a different air about it. In came huge fanboy Tennant, the show had proved itself popular, along came trickles of more old stuff (Sarah Jane, Daleks v Cybermen, etc).
