So why did Batman use guns?

The Batman in this universe was never described as being opposed to guns. For all we know, he may not have any principles at all.

That Bruce's psychology only allows him to kill in self-defense or in an out-of-sight/out-of-mind sort of way. It has to be in some manner he can rationalize as being not his fault.

It's why he has no problem with bad guys dying as long as they're shooting back, but can't bring himself to kill someone when they're visibly at his mercy. It's why he brands certain criminals, the ones he sees as being the worst of the worst. They also tend to be the guys in charge and the people with information he's after, so they're incapacitated, at his mercy, and being questioned.

If he truly had zero problem with what is a face-to-face killing, he'd just kill them and drop a weapon like a dirty cop. That doesn't work for him, so instead he brands them and leaves it up to someone else to do his dirty work for him.

Now think about that, think about what that implies about him making a spear instead of one kryptonite round to load into one of his machine gun turrets, and ask yourself what's being implied by the dream where pic related happens.
>>
>>83631289
Why is this alternate costume so based? A perfect mix of Bane/Batman and Isis. More superheroes should have alternate costumes on movies. And no, I dont mean new costumes for each new movie. I mean one alternative costume for a single scene. Its cool and it also helps selling toys.
>>
>>83632281
I fucking hate being able to see Batmans armour.
>>
>>83631427
Except it does, you fucking retard. The movie will probably open with everyone dying and Flash using his last breath to go back in time and warn Bruce.
>>
>>83638804
When Alfred slapped down the newspaper and said "New rules?" If he's against branding and torture, how do you think he feels about killing? Honestly, I'd be fine with self-defense. Alfred's an ex-military man in almost every incarnation so he probably would be, too. But self-defense and murder are two very different things, "time-release" murder notwithstanding.
>>
>>83638132
He shots vehicles with another vehicle. Shit happens. Better not engage in criminal activities.

He still doesnt use guns. and btw, thats not a gun, its a canon.

"I dont have to use a gun, but I dont have to refuse to use this cannon". Its classic Batman Begins
>>
>>83638957
I think of that look as "Batman: Fury Road." I love it.
>>
>>83639033
Not only that, but Alfred says people become cruel talking about bruce and his increasingly homicidal methods. Its in the fucking trailer of the movie.
>>
>>83639153
Yep, it sure is. He even nails why it's happening. Bruce is feeling pointless in the face of power beyond his understanding. I also liked Alfred's little exchange with him on the morning after his Man-Bat dream:

"The Bat interrogated 6 people and came away with nothing. It was Bruce Wayne that got that information."

Alfred knew what was up and which side of Bruce's psyche was calling the shots.
>>
If you pay attention there's a mountain of meds by Bruce's bed at the start. He's not stable.

I'm the guy that brought that up in a previous thread. I'm not saying I'm 100% sold on the idea, but it's interesting, especially considering how jacked up Bruce was psychologically.

I'd love for us to get a punchline to that scene in JL, like maybe something where Clark comes back and makes some off-handed comment about Bruce's "psychic powers."

Zach Snyder is functionally retarded. He doesn't understand character. It's why Watchman was a waste of time, both Batman and Superman are Ayn Rand, and why Sucker Punch was unwatchable.
>>
snyder was ballsy in showing batman using guns and lethal force, without going too over board with it. It reminds me of some interpretations of the character, like the original run, or The Dark Knight Returns.

It's sad that some nerds hate it because their favourite no talent hack writer stated that batman would kill a billion innocents to save one terrorist because if you kill your enemies they win or some gay, retarded shit like that
>>
>>83639940
didn't watch watchman. His Batman and superman were both excellent. YOUR'E the retard
>>
>>83640005
Someone will sperg now that Batman didnt kill anyone in TDKR when he broke the Joker's neck and left him to die with a batarang on his brain.

>but Joker finished the job hehehe!

Then we have the Bat-tank running over mutants. Electrifying one mutant. And the infamous gun shooting scene where he might have killed someone or not.
>>
>>83634159
Dead. Nitewin killed by bitch ass robin
>>
If the movie had a scene were alfred is using a gun to save the batman from the joker, but the batman musters impossible strength to then save the joker by paralyzing alfred forever, and then the batman said something gay like "I won't let you become a murderer Alfred" or "if you kill your enemies, they win" nerds would be orgasming over BvS

but that wouldn't be batman; it would only be one of the interpretations the character had over the decades. Zach Snyder interpretation is one of the most interesting one, with call backs to the original run and miller's the dark knight returns
>>
>>83640150
>if you kill your enemies, they win
Trudeau would be proud. Which is the exact reason why Batman cant have that thinking. Literally the last person I think when someone names Batman is that fucking leaf

Why did Batman stop using them ?
In the Burton movies he killed people and shot at Joker with the Batwing.
He constantly had them in his first apperances.

So why is it such a bad thing for him to use a gun now ?

the allure of these characters is they stick to principles in the face of all opposition

so trying to have a movie where they give up on all their principles (or don't have any at all, in the case of superman) is just self defeating and idiotic.
>>
>>83640150
It's more than that, even. In a very real way, Snyder's Batman is a stand-in for the heroes of the pulp era that preceded superheroes - guys like the Shadow, Zorro, and Doc Savage. The way he finds his legacy threatened by the coming of the Superman is a wonderful allusion to comics history. Him finding out about Diana and the first hints of the past she represents are well done, too. He's lived his whole life in a world where the myths were all real and he never even knew it.
>>
>>83640935
>he allure of these characters is they stick to principles in the face of all opposition
No, not really. That would make it incredibly boring and shitty. I mean, you could have one character to be like that, but to make the whole group clinically retarded? Fuck no.

Diana will be the hopelessly optimistic hero. It worked for her in the movie, but I dont want the retard league.

The Burton movies tend to be considered exceptions because they were adapting the early years of Batman, when he was still killing people. And it's not like murder is supposed to be a big deal in those instances, the Burton movies are live-action cartoons where Batman comedically sticks a bomb in a thug's pants.

Generally speaking, most versions of Batman are written so that him killing and using a gun are against character.
That doesn't stop it from happening because Batman changes all the time.

>Why did Batman stop using them ?
They tried to make him less of a Shadow plagiarism as time went on so they removed the guns and created his backstory as someone with a reason to hate them (since it was someone with a gun who killed his parents).
And then of course the CCA happened.

>mangles epicurus at a character
>he didn't think he was god tho!!

It's amazing the levels of cherry-picking you guys will go to in order to prop up your shaky argument. Why is it you always conveniently, and quite conspicuously, omit one of the final things Lex says to him in that conversation, the part that reveals literally everything to the people that were actually paying attention instead of letting their own confirmation bias call the shots?
>>
>>83632488

Well said, Satan.

It also showed the Batman at his absolute rock-bottom, a point he never reaches in the film - the point where he'll not only put a bullet in someone, but where he will, without hesitation, kill with his bare hands.

The guys that criticize his portrayal should go watch "The Professional" again. For the first time, for that matter. Why do you think killing up close is the last lesson? It's not just because there's more skill involved.

No, what you're trying to do now is deflect onto your other non-point - that the movie didn't portray anyone heroically.

For most of the run-time, you're correct about Bruce. Fortunately for us, he wasn't supposed to look heroic, and if you thought he was, you're as brain-dead as you are tone-deaf.

As for Clark, well . . .

Clark's playing super-first-responder, which makes perfect sense considering the events of MoS have left him feeling guilty and reluctant to take a more proactive role in the world and become a truly public figure. so he's heroic, just not as heroic as he *could* be. This one is about him finding out what sort of role he really fills in society and that how he approaches problems is every bit as important as the solution.
>>
>>83641666
>>83641807

>>
>>83641992
It is my entire point and it doesn't matter how much you try to wiggle around it. The DCEU up until the marlel'ing was, basically, "why call these people superheros?" while still operating under studio mandates to be superhero movies.

So they were movies about characters that are neither heroic or admirable in any way, shape, or form, but they're still called superheros.

They're the same faggots who had zero problem with Superman acting as the government's pawn in TDKR and maiming Ollie. The hypocrisy is as obvious as it is hilarious.

The fact that they can't even see what an astute assessment of modern culture it was to make that transposition just doubles down on the hilarity.

>Zach Snyder interpretation is one of the most interesting one
A half assed copy paste of Miller´s Batman where it´s just an hypocrite psychopath that let the worst live?

Yeah. Hand on gun. Eye-to-eye, with them unquestionably as his intended target.

You'll think I'm splitting hairs. I'm not. He was, and that's the entire point.

In the batmobile chase scene

He pulls the trigger and the cannons rip apart the minigun operator before blowing up the car

He also takes a persons head off by driving the batmobile

I remember I got bullied for dressing up as Robin in 97 due to the costume having bat nipples

Incorrect. He only ever targets the suspension. The guy in the truck trailer later is full-on collateral damage that he couldn't even see.

He puts himself into situations where he knows people are going to try to kill him, which lets him rationalize the actions he takes as "self-defense," but even then, he always needs some sort of buffer, something to distance himself, detach himself from the actual act. It's the same psychology at work behind the branding.

My bet is that Bruce had already killed once before, most likely in an intensely personal manner, in a moment of rage. This is him compromising with his own bloodlust, simultaneously justifying his actions while distancing himself from them.

Except in BvS it happened in a dream. So did he go back in time or did he go through some sort of dream universe?

I'm sure they survived that car crash perfectly fine, all they did was flip to the side while speeding.

Not even a second later the Batmobile rams the car and it explodes

So even then Batman does kill

Because Zack Snyder likes ruining comic book characters.
If only we could get a Batman movie along the lines of the Arkham games, that might actually be good.

Icy your point. It's cooler to have one suit to chill with your companions and another one to freeze your enemies still with your fresh looks. But I'm afraid that suit on your picture leaves me rather cold. The only rate it deserves is absolute zero, and I don't want to be cold-hearted, but it's just how ice see it.
Anyway, gotta go, stay frosty!

Dude you're so insanely autistically fucking retarded about the muh suspension memes. Even if he was "only aiming at the suspension," he clearly strafed into the cabin and lit up the lights on both sides of the shooter. If he wasn't trying to cause death, that makes him incompetent.

And even ignoring him literally shooting dudes to death with a fucking machine gun mounted on his batmobile, and even ignore him knowingly crashing his batmobile into an occupied truck trailer, you're also ignoring him needlessly dragging a disabled car full of people and smashing it into things.

And even ignoring all that, the "not killing" thing probably top 5 attributes people think of when they think of Batman after TDK. If you're going to show Batman killing, maybe don't have him casually doing it in the second act for literally no reason. In TDKR Batman knowingly shoots up his gf in her truck, because Gotham is at risk of being vaporized in a few minutes. In BvS, Batman masterbatingly kills a bunch of security contractors with a machine gun in a failed attempt to steal something that he just steals off camera later.

My dude, he straight up kills people. But that's ok.

Anyone who says "You can't do this with your interpretation of a character because this is what they're SUPPOSED to be" or "This is what I think they should be" is a fucking idiot.

>That Bruce's psychology only allows him to kill in self-defense or in an out-of-sight/out-of-mind sort of way. It has to be in some manner he can rationalize as being not his fault.
thats just how fucking Zack rationalized him murdering a bunch of people for no reason when critics called him out on it. He doesn't think his fucking Batmanslaughter is something canon batman wouldn't do.

>I didn't kill them. The gun I was firing didn't kill them. The bullets and all the explosions did.
>not my fault they where too close to all those exploding bullets I was shooting at them
