The filmmakers brought in a bunch of chicks and took pictures of them in various states of undress back when they were still trying to figure out what the monster would be and how to bring it to life. Ridley wanted something feminine. But nothing was working right.

A breakthrough came when someone involved with the film ran into Bolaji Badejo at a bar and, impressed by his height, asked him if he wanted a part in a film. Badejo allegedly said "sure" and the rest is history.

Does anyone know why the Alien never responded to the cat? I'm pretty sure the cat found the alien a couple times in the movie but it never got hurt. I never understood why the xeno ignored it, especially since the cat could give away its position to the crew.

My interpretation of the alien-cat interaction has always been that the cat was simply perceived by the alien to be insignificant, and was thus never "done anything about".

There were multiple treatments for the ending, however. In terms of crafting a story, the cat-alien interactions do present an obvious "infection vector", but just the simple fact that in the final story version, the alien stowed away on the craft does as much to suggest same.
