Is Tim Burton the most overrated director active today?
>>83552065
Not really. Nobody gives a shit about him anymore.
No, he deserves it.
Chrisopher Nolan, however, is probably the most overrated director working today.
Yes. Plebs think watching a Tim Burton film is like going to an art gallery for 25 minutes.
>muh Giacometti aesthetics
>muh Svenkhmaher
>wow so deep
>Pee-wee's Big Adventure
>Beetlejuice
>Batman
>Edward Scissorhands
>The Nightmare Before Christmas
>Batman Returns
>Ed Wood
>Mars Attacks!
>Big Fish
No. He's just lazy as fuck. I wish he wasn't but the guy is responsible for one legit 10/10 (Ed Wood) and many other classics so he can do what he wants.
Sleepy Hollow was his last good movie
>>83552065
He's like the only mainstream director who makes surrealist films.
But a lot of his films are massively overrated. But I also haven't seen like his last 2 or 3
>>83552174
looking at this list, he's a guy who peaked a couple decades ago but still gets paid to make movies where johnny depp does the thing.
maybe
but I love Big Fish so much I don't even care
>>83552174
It's funny how Burton gets all the credit for Nightmare Before Christmas and people don't even remember the name of the guy who actually directed it.
>>83552065
I don't know, everything he made prior to Sleepy Hollow was great.
David Lynch takes that title
>>83552223
No, Frankenweenie was. That movie almost made me cry.
>>83552157
His real influences are Gorey, Melies, Vincent Price and German expressionism.
Wes Anderson and Tim Burton should co-direct. Tim's hollow stuff just bores me to tears 45 minutes in to each picture.
>>83552310
Henry Sellick.
Although I do remember the hot topic girls I was in school with saw Coraline thinking it was "another Tim Burton movie!!!11!"
No. It's Baz Luhrmann, no contest.
>>83552252
This. Early Burton is one of my favorite directors, but he clearly isn't as motivated/gives a shit anymore.
>>83552065
Tim Burton is still active?
Anyways, the answer is Nolan, I've never heard anyone call Tim Burton a genius.
>>83552310
Sellick directed Nightmare but Burton was very involved in the project probably moreso than in Corpse's Bride where the assistant director did most of the work.
>>83552459
I agree with this
>>83552065
>Pee wee's big adventure
>ed wood
>Beetlejuice
>mars attacks
>edward scissorhands
>Batman
>Batman returns
>Big fish
He's made enough legitimately GOAT movies to justify phoning it in for the rest of his career.
Today? No, that would be Zacj Snyder.
Burton has fell into a rut. No more good ideas, just slapping his style over someone else's.
Burton is kinda overrated, but we've got worse...
>>83552065
yeah
>>83552065
Directors are the most overrated shit in Hollywood.
>>83552773
Not really. The Matrix is rated properly (it was undeniably influential) but all of their other movies after it haven't been received very well critically.
the worst one is Jim Jarmusch. i know he is not so popular. But i'm sure that the popularity he has is even overrated.
>>83552773
kys pleb faggot
>>83552065
You made this thread ten to fifteen years too late.
>>83552310
>>83552444
NBC is more a Burton film than a Sellick film is the reason why
Burton wrote and produced it. I'm pretty sure Sellick was only hired because he had more experience with stop motion. But it was definitely Burton's vision.
Also, it's full title is technically Tim Burton's The Night Before Christmas
>>83554895
This dude is underrated
Come at me
>>83552065
Why does he look like he's got Helena's dick up his arse /tv/?
>>83556221
nah his work from 70`s till early 90`s is very solid. Some of his latter stuff is pretty good too.
>>83556221
I never knew that was him, one of my favorite kinos too.
