>over the top hilarious action
>good music choice
>enjoyable characters with awesome personality
>cute waifu
>best partner scene at the hotel
>predictable yet enjoyable twist
>fucking Phoenix Force finale
>a lot of diversity in the action scenes
>the only sensible use of shaky cam ever and only when it makes sense

How come it doesn't get the proper respect it deserves?
>>
Possibly action films are not valued by male audiences for great action.

Possibly male audiences view action films as Daddy Worship, or as a wish-fulfillment mirror which would require a representative stand-in -- a male face for males to project their narcissism onto.

POV films can't fulfill the narcissism goal of action films without a totem.

Personally I'm with OP, it was the best action flick since Bourne and /pol-tv/ are faggots who missed out.
>>
>>83537728
it's basically just a worse version of Gamer, but that's still a /v/ flick, so you're still right even if it was about the wrong film
>>
>>83537728
This is a fun movie
>>
why dont they make DOOM in this style?

>>
>>83538167
But they did. Iirc, the beginning is full blown FPS.
>>
>>83538264
maybe try actually watching the film instead of a clip on youtube so you have some chance of actually understanding the intent behind the way it's shot

or are you one of those people who judges action movies on some kind of universal standard that in no way applies to the actual art of filmmaking
>>
>>83539091
it's a 10 minute sequence towards the end of the film
>>
>>83539137
>get flaws pointed
>ducks and evade criticism
I watched Gamer three times and I see no reason to make such a shitty sequence. What would be the purpose of making a shooting sequence where you don't see what is being shot at, who is shooting, the side they are on, if they even hit something. If anything, it would actually damage the notion of any action game because you KNOW who your team is and what exactly is going on. Making it confusing serves no purpose. Or even six angles of a guy walking on a catwalk.

Do tell me how it's any better than Henry.
>inb4 muh paranoia

so, you know why they did it that way and choose to ignore it because the action doesn't fit your imaginary universal standard. okay.

Shut the fuck up.
>>
>>83539459
How does a distopia justify bad action, Jennifer?
>>
it doesnt get respect because most people cant finish it without vomitting.
>>
>>83539515
>bad
there you are with that imaginary universal standard again. the action is good because it's appropriate to the atmosphere and thematic content in the film.
>>
>>83537728
Because it's shot in first person. That's fucking awful
>>
>>83538074
Have you even fucking seen it?
>>
>>83539664
yes
>>
>>83539548
>it's appropriate to the atmosphere and thematic content in the film.
>action movie about action games
>action doesn't resemble action games in the least
>it's totally messy
Also, if you're going to claim that that standards don't exist, how can support your claim that Gamer is better than Henry? Are you using an imaginary universal standard, double standard boy?
>>
>>83539699
no, i'm using critical thinking to examine each film independently of each other and concluding (correctly) that Gamer is a more internally consistent and intelligent film that actually attempts to be something other than Dude Videogames Lmao: The Movie and, for the most part, succeeds

also, in no way is Gamer a movie "about" action games.
>>
>>83539736
All right, critical thinker. Stop dodging the bullet and make your point for the scene, then. We're all waiting.

Include how Henry isn't internally consistent.
>>
>>83539776
i'm not typing an essay for some random loser on 4chan at 12:18am. look up Steven Shaviro's article about it if you're interested in some good writing about what makes it a good film. it's called The Pinocchio Theory or something along those lines.

Like clockwork. And you still haven't made a SINGLE point as to why Henry is bad.
>>
>>83540115
here, i'll link it for you because you're too lazy to google it yourself http://www.shaviro.com/Blog/?p=830

also, i never said Henry was bad, i said it was worse than Gamer. it's perfectly entertaining flick by itself, but it doesn't have anything interesting to say or contribute. it's escapist entertainment, and that's fine, but i doubt i'll watch it again, at least not by myself or by my own choice.
>>
>>83539426
>I watched Gamer three times
Why?
>>
>>83537728
It's a masterpiece, and functions well enough for me as a Crank 3 replacement.

>>83538167
I want to see that, but the stigma from The Rock's version still looms (even with the God-Tier 2016 version being vidyakino).
>>
>>83540178
I'm not reading an essay linked by some random loser on 4chan at 12:38am (Heh). Specially not something that has 10.000+ words to explain the lightning in a b-movie that came out years ago.

Also
>muh depth
The time I'd spent reading that I could actually read something with depth, like, you know, a book. Movies are meant to be fun and/or beautiful. The only people who pretend otherwise are lazy fucks who can't into serious reading and want to pass as some sort of intellectuals. This is specially true when it's a full blown action movie.

>>83540192
I honestly don't know.
>>
>>83540462
>Movies are meant to be fun and/or beautiful.
oh, i see. you're not just lazy, you're also a fucking retard.

GO TO BED, MERYL!
>>
>>83540564
art CAN be meant to be beautiful and enjoyable, and there's nothing wrong with that, but to imply that it is ONLY meant to be beautiful and enjoyable is to discredit the work of some of the greatest filmmakers, painters, and writers the world has ever known.
>>
>>83540609
I'll give you that. But trying to impart some sense of art in a shoot-them-up movie truly is a bad move. It would make as much sense as to do it in a porn. It doesn't remotely fit what people expect.

Dunno about most people, but I only remember the shoot out scene I linked (I didn't even recall it was so lazily edited), the social game due to it's shock value and the finale.
>>
>>83540711
>It would make as much sense as to do it in a porn.
revealing yourself as even more retarded than i previously thought doesn't exactly help your point

Hello, Snyder.

There's a couple parts that are really bad. Most obvious one is the grenade launcher scene towards the end. Looks like cheap video game CGI.

hello idiot
>>
How is this is a /v/ flick? What game was this movie derived from (read: specific title)?
It'd be one of the first movies I get if I ever obtained a home theater system. Shit was cash, I should've brought my dad to see it.
>>
>>83537728
Just saw this movie not too long ago and was pleasantly surprised by it. The first person pov was really handled well and the story was good enough to keep me interested. Great film.
>>
I feel like Sharlto signed up only to have fun. And damn right he has a lot of fun.
>>
>>83540812
That one, apparently they REALLY wanted to do that practical but couldn't because the first take fucked up and they didn't have the budget/time to rebuild.

The entire FPS genre.
It also has a few /v/ tropes, such as silent protagonist and the damsel in distress premise.

>>83541367
I also enjoyed how well the camera game was handed, as it felt like the proper place to look at most of the time. The actor was quite good at physical expression and didn't feel too comical when he was signaling.

>>83541492
He was the best part, desu. Got sad when he died.

>>83541043
>calls me an idiot for pointing that people won't get your artistic intent when you splash boobs and blood in a convulsion inducting editting style action movie that requires a literally over 9000 words essay to be understood
>claims I'm ignoring the artistic intent
>neglects to notice that the director did a shitty job expressing whatever art intent there was, if there ever was such a thing
>tries to use the second worst possible genre to do it, worst IS porn, because NOBODY watches an action movie for its depth and artistry
>actually expects me to sit down and try deconstruct every action movie to find some sort of meaning
>blatantly ignores that there are much better ways to find meaning
>in this shitfest of posts hasn't made a single good point as to why Gamer is actually artistic and/or good
I've had enough pretentiousness and contrarianism for one night.
If you want to have a Gamer thread, make your own, Neveldine. No more (you)s for you.
>>
I don't understand how people can get motion sick from a 2d first person recording, but stuttering wide pans in muh cinematic 24 fps are totally fine, as is FUCKING SHAKY CAM.
