CLOSE THE IRIS!
GOOLD?
I've watched the whole series twice, one of the best out there
I'm sure I'll take a trip down memory lane in my 40s and re watch it all
>>83494761
that happens alot. Why didn't they have another iris over the regular iris
>>83494761
Wait, so any random retarded ayy lmao with a Stargate can just open the door and waltz right in? Seems like a big security hazard imo.
>dude fuck earth
>agreed
>all right, send them a bomb surrounded by all this black goop, not like they can close the door before they realize they've just been fucked.
Or am I misunderstanding the series? I only watched the first movie which was great but the series looked retarded.
>>83496382
I discovered it properly like 5 years ago and I've seen both SG1 and Atlantis through at least 5 times in that time.
It went straight to my favourite top few shows immediately.
Trying to watch Farscape right now and it doesn't compare, though I've only seen season 1 so far.
>>83496770
They need a GDO you fuckwit.
They have the iris.
No GDO, no entry.
>>83496819
the goold are not on the blocked number list so they keep getting through
>>83496770
The series is great television and one of the best sci fi series, up there with stuff like babylon 5, star trek, and farscape.
As for the gate, they close the metal shield every time the gate opens up and it requires an encoded radio transmission from specific communication devices issued to the SG teams in order for people to even consider opening it. If a transmission is from a compromised source, IE a GDO that belonged to a captured SG team member, they don't open it anyway.
some days I wish they'd follow up on the Universe
>>83494761
Jack, may I share something with you?
A vision I had in my sleep last night — distinguished from a dream which is mere sorting and cataloging of the day's events by the subconscious. This was a vision, fresh and clear as an event horizon — the mind revealing itself to itself. In my vision, I was on the deck of a vast starship, a bridge of some fantastic proportion. There seemed to emanate from it a light from within — this gleaming radiant trinium. I had known this ship. It had in fact been named after me. This was my first return, a reunion with the deepest wellsprings of my being. Wandering about, I was happy that the ship had been immaculately maintained. There had been added a number of additional decks, but in a way it blended so seamlessly with the original construction, one would never detect any difference. Returning to the ship's bridge, there came a knock at the hatch. You and Sam were standing there. you were both was happy and care-free, clearly living a life of deep harmony and joy. We embraced — a warm and loving embrace, nothing withheld. We were in this moment one. My vision ended. I awoke with a tremendous of optimism and confidence in you and your future. That was my vision; it was of you. I'm so glad to have had this opportunity to share it with you. I wish you nothing but the very best, always.

>they close the metal shield every time the gate opens up and it requires an encoded radio transmission from specific communication devices issued to the SG teams in order for people to even consider opening it
>an encoded radio transmission
>radio transmission
>radio
>closing the door until you hear "hey it's us Bob, open up dude" on your walkie-talkie that uses the electromagnetic spectrum for its transmission method, while they are possibly thousands of light-years away
So do they address this or am I missing something?
>>83497494
They transmit through the event horizon that facilitates near instantaneous faster than light travel. You know, the thing that the show is based around.
>>83497562
Oh I guess that makes sense. Like I said I only watched the first movie. Couldn't get into the series, seemed kinda dumb. Someone stream the first movie tonight and I'll download the series overnight. I promise. Also: that actor that played Ra in the movie was a great actor imo, whatever happened to him?
>>83497716
Nevermind fuck you fags, I just downloaded the first movie and put it on. Although anyone know how to fix the file showing like 7 hours long even though the movie is nowhere near that long? can I edit the metadata somehow?
>>83498050
Oh man, I think I might be the person that made that made that crappy vid. It's the director's cut, right?
>>83494761
Did this shit really need to be 10 seasons?
>>83496770
That's what the iris is for.
>>83496788
Farscape gets better, give it time. The one great thing about Farscape is how flawed everyone is, very different from SG1.
guys, what the fuck were those two episodes with the manlet director?
>>83498641
>Did this shit really need to be 10 seasons?
not at all. The core actors got better as the series went on, even towards the end, but it did drag with the Ori shit.
X-Files didn't need to be as long as it was either but it kept being popular. They both kinda lived too long but I'd rather have more of a good series than nothing or shit.
TEALC'D

>>83498784
You mean JAFAR'D
>>83498641
>Did this shit really need to be 10 seasons?
No, but I thought it was fun. There's definitely a couple dozen plotlines that ended up getting recycled about every 3 years, and once some madman anon rattled all of them off in a jokepost that I really should have capped but I didn't. Still it was a fun ride and max comfy.

>>83496691
The iris worked by being really close to the event horizon, preventing matter from reintegrating. Having a 2nd iris wouldn't make it any stronger.
>>83496770
The ancients realized this in Atlantis and put a forcefield on their stargate. Although they'd still get fucked by a stargate by a black hole.
All the other gates were just being spread to random worlds by automated ships so they didn't care about them being insecure. Also they needed them to be insecure or the plot of the original movie wouldn't have worked.
>>83503147
That's from S10, the writers and even fans knew they were out of ideas at that point. It's pretty much as close to Zombie-tier as SG-1 got.
watching Stargate.SG-1.S01E17
why is there two gates on earth?
>>83503765
One was left behind by the ancients, and one was left behind by the goolds
>>83503765
the alpha gate was unearthed at giza because that's where the goold plonked it when they made their pyramids, it was a transplant
the ancients left the beta gate behind in antarctica when they fucked off of earth in 1000000 bc
>>83503765
How do you know about the Beta Gate if that's episode 18?
And it's because that's the original gate for Earth that the Ancients left when they abandoned the planet for Pegasus. The Alpha Gate was brought to Earth by the Goa'uld to subjugate early humans.
>>83498641
Honestly? Just stop watching after O'Neill leaves the show. It's all shit after that. Granted, Richard Dean Anderson is fucking retarded and wanted to save seal blood or something. But god damn he is fantastic as O'Neill/

sgc/daniel cracks the code of the 9th chevron, it's used exclusively to dial the destiny, ancient gate-seeding intergalactic vessel, but you need a massive power source to a gate in order to use it, so they spend years rigging up this geothermal planet for a project to dial all 9 chevrons and then a bunch of misfits get sent there in a chaotic event

>>83507568
No, that's Pallan. The dude who helped SG-1 save everyone trapped in that environmental protection bubble who were being brainwashed by their smart pho-- I mean The Link into killing themselves to preserve their society because the power was failing on their device.
Also Halling, that cripple Athosian who was their defacto leader of them after Teyla joined Sheppard's team.
And he also played some Wraith that kept showing up. I think his name was Gus or something with a G... Guide?
They really got a lot of mileage out of their slight-less-than-guest-star characters. That Tollan dude who was in love with Samantha came back as Elizabeth Wier's husband, which was super confusing since they were both fairly prominent characters. Tyler was a background character in a few episodes. Anubis's Prototype was the Wraith in Vegas. Todd could have met himself if Michael hadn't kidnapped all of the Athosians. And I think most of the Tok'Ra were SGC, Jaffa, and random villagers.
>>83507937
speaking of
I love Stargate, I really do, but what always kills me when rewatching the show is how every single alien race speaks perfect, modern english.
At least shows like Farscape made it make sense, in the first episode when Chrichton gets onto Moya, all the aliens are speaking alien languages, until one of the probes on the ships injects Crichton with a translation device. It's a nice little detail that sets up everything in the show well, I just with Stargate did something similar.
>>83508059
who cares, it's a lazy copout no matter what you do - the universal translator may as well be magic. you know that it's a bullshit excuse, so might as well ignore the issue altogether
>>83508059
They did something like that with the Nox, how they couldn't speak English at first but were able to learn it quickly due to their psychic powers.
*shakes your hand*
>>83508205
There's pretty much literal magic in the Stargate Universe, look at all the ancient tech, it's all "magical" in appearance. The entire concept of ascension is basically magic.

Fuck you.

SG:U finally, FUCKING FINALLY, broke the bonds of 'muh earth mythology' bullshit that the other's were tied to. We were finally free of fucking everything being about earth and finally had a sci-fi show based on Stargate in space.
The friendly rivalry with Rush and Eli was fucking immense.
Soldier Tits McGee was hot as fuck.
They had so much fucking potential and because people like you couldn't give it time they had to cancel it, you fucking pleb. The sets were great, the plot was building, everything was on course for a fantastic show, but you and your autistic kin just couldn't fucking wait, so reeeee'd it out of existence, you fucking plebs.
Does anyone have the link to the SG1-stream?
I'm going to start working night shift in a couple of hours and could use something to watch during downtime.
>tfw we will never get a proper SGU
Imagine how kino it would be without dumb shit like going to clubs on Earth in other people's bodies.
Imagine how amazing it would be watching a ragtag bunch of random people having to become a proper crew for an old alien rusty spaceship they don't understand, on the other side of the universe, completely isolated from anything familiar to them, surrounded by eerie environments and having to learn fast or die.
The writers are fucking hacks. Be could have had a GOAT sci-fi adventure series, instead we god a barely passable BSG wannabe with retarded plot decisions and wasted potential.

You're wrong, friend. SGU wasn't on course for being a fantastic show. You can see that the writers had zero imagination, they couldn't come up with any more episodes without introducing more humans. The luician alliance guys and the descendans of the crew appearing assured me that season 3 would be just more of the same. The thing with earch mythology is true, it's great that SGU broke up with that, but they didn't go all in and that's a mistake.

And Oma Desala wouldn't be there to help him after she tried to stop Anubis. So he might not be able to do it even if he wanted to.

>>83519745
I hated The Shrine, it was just like that one SG-1 episode where Daniel accidentally absorbs the personalities of a dying race from their Ark. It was just Shanks and Hewlett jerking off for 42 minutes. Unlike >>83519694 which I actually liked because it was more than just him.

Nothing really brought you in except lore.
It did spawn Ancient Aliens though! That's a good thing.
It's like they just didn't have enough money to keep expanding, including new species, ships, galactic battles... there could've/should've been some sort of union established with humans and someone, empires and territories struck.
