He was really important as a cultural icon and also as a film lover. I didn't agree with him on everything, and sometimes he was dead wrong. His writing was a joy to read, though, and you could tell he put a lot of thought into whatever he wrote. Even when he was wrong, the article in which he was wrong was exceptionally well written. His very negative reviews were often incredibly funny and sharp. I miss reading new stuff of his, and it makes me sad that I know it won't happen. The guy has a well earned place when it comes to journalism and criticism, not to mention in the country.
