This is a shame, because the show was legitimately original sci-fi with an amazing premise, but the Wachowski human beings have nobody to blame but themselves. They're still coasting off the Matrix and they thought their name recognition would keep getting them renewed despite their gross inflation of the show's budget.

You would think that with storylines converging in season 2 they would cut out some filming locations and the show would get cheaper, but no, $9m per episode. The on-location shooting itself was a completely self-indulgent idea. The Matrix was filmed all in one studio and was great. The CW is able to turn Vancouver into every city on earth for peanuts. All these fuckers needed to do was keep costs under control.

There were a lot of problems with the show (I guarantee the viewership would have been higher if not for the dildo scene in the first episode) but the Wachowskis decided that putting their undiluted artistic vision out there was more important than actually making sure they could finish their story, which is shitty to both the fans of the show and the network they're making it for.

I actually really enjoyed the show, despite the intermittent indulgent orgy/childbirth/other shit I don't need on tv scenes, because the premise, cast, and shooting were all great, but the cancellation was inevitable.

The strange part about this show that I could never figure out was the intro. it starts with all the different cites from the characters home countries all with extremely ominous music ramping up to san franciso and all the gay imagery and then the music gets to it's peak. every time I saw the intro it looked and sounded like they were framing the gay stuff at the end in a highly negative almost evil way. but the show itself is LBGT pandering. it was bizarre.
