I want to quit, but don't know if I can. It's not even a habit anymore, just part of me. I'm functional, have a job, wife, nice life. People like me, but I don't like myself or anyone. It's an escape and something I love doing alone. I look forward to it. Plan for it. Miss things to do it. And it's fun for a few hours or a night, but unfulfilling since it's what I've done to calm myself for decades at this point. It's a terrible cycle, and one I don't know if I can or want to get out of. I can't imagine any other way to be at this point. I want to read, get out of the house more, be a happier better person, but I can't. I have periods (maybe a week) where I stop and feel fucking amazing, but it's somehow not enough to convince me to continue down that path. I think I'm just sad and miserable despite having no reason to be. I'm wasting my one life destroying it.
