Yes.

Yes it's a crap answer but I am not to be depended upon.

Just rewatched first episode of of The Exorcist. Want to get into it but probably won't. Love Legion, no idea why people don't talk about it here. It's ambiguous,no idea if he is a good guy,are those demons? Is he just a demon that's not a dick?
OP,are you an alcohol? Or just afraid you will be one? I recommend against it,but I am only a little drunk.

MASH.
You can't afford cable or booze.

Too many to list, I'll just say The Pacific.

Yes I'm an alcoholic, I got wasted 9 nights in a row including the last 3 nights drinking a twenty sixer of vodka. This will be my 3rd night in a row not drinking. Last night I sweat so much I lost 3 pounds and thought I pissed myself because I was soaking wet in the morning.

You get used to it.
It's the blankets, anon, they are so comfy but to much warm. No need for blanket time(you hug them) but I'm guessing it's not your bed your sleeping in so instead of near nude(never nude because you are responsible enough to be ready to deal with the morning people even when hung over) you cuddle up with blankets that are thicker than you could imagine buying.like you would leave home, drive and talk to a person about blankets.

Best of luck,anon.

Home Movies and I would say no. I drink a fair bit, about a handle of vodka a weekend, but I only drink when I'm not working the next day and never call in sick and never blow off obligations because of it. And I have no problem going a weekend without if I'm traveling or have other shit to do.

Get depressed, drink alone, got a DUI, get fired, fail out of college, move back home and get my bearings.
Move away, finish college, get a job.
Alcohol creeps back into my life and make poor choices again, not as glaring bad choices but evident nonetheless.
Quit, don't need it.
Only thing I miss is I'd like to see who's around on the weekend ya know? Can't do that if I'm not out and about. So the draw back is less of a social life (if that's what you want to call drinking buddies) but better everything else.

I sure as fuck don't see anything turning 10 months sobriety off anytime soon. Too long and too proud to break that.
Picked up reading and golf instead.

One time when I was in my impulsive drinking binge I went out with the attitude "I'm getting some pussy"

this whole fucking movie was so ridiculous. it sets up an impossible situation where a hopeless drunk is also an ace pilot who can bring a passenger jet out of a fatal stall and save hundreds of lives. then it shows a typical unrealistic breakdown by a person who has never really dealt with alcoholism.

It's like the whole point of the movie is to attack meritocracy and drunks. this man's ACTIONS and REALITY are not important. what we should focus on is the IMPLAUSIBLE NOTION HE WAS DRUNK THE WHOLE TIME HE WAS BEING A SUPERHERO. Drink is, after all, the curse of the working class.

the dude in this movie deserved a medal and a mentor, not prison.

I want to quit, but don't know if I can. It's not even a habit anymore, just part of me. I'm functional, have a job, wife, nice life. People like me, but I don't like myself or anyone. It's an escape and something I love doing alone. I look forward to it. Plan for it. Miss things to do it. And it's fun for a few hours or a night, but unfulfilling since it's what I've done to calm myself for decades at this point. It's a terrible cycle, and one I don't know if I can or want to get out of. I can't imagine any other way to be at this point. I want to read, get out of the house more, be a happier better person, but I can't. I have periods (maybe a week) where I stop and feel fucking amazing, but it's somehow not enough to convince me to continue down that path. I think I'm just sad and miserable despite having no reason to be. I'm wasting my one life destroying it.

I can't name a favorite TV show. It's too diverse. Moreso than books or movies. I mean, should I even consider game shows? Clive Anderson's Whose Line Is It is a fucking masterpiece. How do you compare The Twilight Zone and Deadwood? What about kids' shows? Are Pete & Pete or Beakman's World too juvenile to be considered "good TV" and thus a legitimate favorite? Anyway, I think I've enough room for just a bit more pretentious drivel, so here's a favorites by incomplete category:

Classic: MASH
Anthology: Twilight Zone
Sitcom: Roseanne
Modern: Fargo
Cartoon: Rocko's Modern Life
Procedural: NCIS

See, this is a baited question. Would I rather fly with a drunk pilot, a sober pilot, OR William "Whip" Whitaker Sr.? There is no contest here.

The movie is unrealistic because people drunk and high on coke do not act like Whip. He's about as realistic a character as Jack Bauer. But the end of the movie is a canard that tries to shift the narrative to one of anti-drug use after showing us a ridiculous account of drug use. It's Reefer Madness levels of wrong.

Okay, so it's a tad sensationalized, as hollywood blockbusters are, true, fault that

But a commercial pilot, regardless of prestige, represents a brand that transcends that prestige, for it stands and trades on a global stage. One headline of "United Airline pilot skillfully lands plane drunk" reads to the market as "united airline pilot drunkenly lands plane". In this world, what it sounds like always takes precedence, like it or not

There should be. Or rather, thre shouldn't, but in the opposite direction. Whip may save your life in the one-in-a-bilion accident, but the increased chance he royally fucks up every standard day since he's drunk vastly outweighs the super-pilot skills.

Right from the bottle. Takes longer to fill a shot glass that is does to drain.
Movies get it wrong. Also you have a brand, in movies heroes does a shot of vodka, the tequila then.....

Now you play golf? Maybe I'm a dry drunk,we can argue on that term, but I can't see my self being around others long enough to do 9 holes without the option to split.(neices and nephews and a few others I love being around, purposely get stuck in traffic)
Have played golf before, shockingly fun with the right people.
I never feel present. I'll talk to someone, even a woman out of my league, but a few minutes later as I'm walking to my car it's as if it never happened. I panick when my phone rings but I literally out my face in front of a man's fist that tried to hurt someone.
Long story short, I can't figure out how to be present.

>Whip may save your life in the one-in-a-bilion accident, but the increased chance he royally fucks up every standard day since he's drunk vastly outweighs the super-pilot skills.
Nothing in the movie suggests this. IIRC correctly he had a remarkably consistent, safe record unmarked by incidents positive or negative. The accident was not his fault and it was only his intuition and actions that saved them. His co-pilot was obviously severely panicked and would not have acted to save them.

To play devils advocate, the fact he was hungover, high and drunk is incidental to the fact he saved everyone's life. Now, should he remain a pilot with that airline? No. He should have been fired. Probably had his pilot's license revoked. But prison is a little much, in light of defendants outstanding conduct.

This is how the world should work. People who deliver win. People who don't, don't.
>>
>>83468201
>Nothing in the movie suggests this.
You are basing how you think the world should work on a movie.

>IIRC correctly he had a remarkably consistent, safe record unmarked by incidents positive or negative.
Past incident is irrelevant to the danger he was placing everybody in. His judgement and reaction time were impaired. Whether that impairment was enough to manifest in his previous flights is irrelevant.

You don't get to drive around drunk because "I haven't hit anybody yet."

It's the same thing with flying, except a thousand times worse.

>This is how the world should work. People who deliver win. People who don't, don't.
I'm sure there's a lovely place for you right next to Bernie Madoff, Enron, and Mussolini.
>>
>>83468201
In the end of the movie he's forced into a position where he must make a moral decision: allow that hot stewardess who died to take the all for the empty shooters found in the garbage, or admit to drinking.

so, the movie kind of forces him into a situation where he makes the correct moral choice, though it results in his self-sacrifice. arguably this is a terrible message. the correct thing to do, though morally questionable, would be to lie. let the state come to their own conclusion on the bottles. admit no culpability.

the entire movie is a set-up.

Yeah but I was asked who I would pick, and those are my reasons. He has a perfect record. He saved people from an impossible situation. That's my pick. I realize he is drunk as fuck and probably doing coke off a hooker's ass in the cabin. I'm at peace with this.

The movie goes through these convoluted plot backflips in order to set things up such that the ONLY person who could make Whip "face the music" was Whip himself. THE WHOLE POINT is that all Whip has to do is remain quiet, but he chooses instead to admit to his problem.

Because that's the message: no one can start the road to recovery but you. I don't see how people are having trouble with this.

Favorite shows are prolly:

The Wire
Fargo
Goliath
Friday Night Lights
Mad Men
BrBa and BCS

>road to recovery is a stint in prison

this is some nice logic from the prison-industrial complex. no one's life is improved by that.

oh, oh. but he reconnects with his son. we know the black community has a problem with THAT. good movie. good message.

no.

Good point.

If you pilot is William "Whip" Whitaker Sr. then reality takes a backseat. You see, he derives flight power from drugs. The more inebriated he is, the more skillful. He becomes one with the plane, instantly knowing what's wrong and how to fix it. He's truly a supernatural entity. Sully has nothing on Whip. That dude wasn't even upside down.

Why would you want a mere mortal when you can have the worlds most incredible pilot, ever?
>>
I also love watching Best Korea TV. It's like something from another planet. Goes great with drugs/alcohol.

Why did bubbles have to become the main fucking character in later seasons. What stupid decision by that fucking guy.
>>
>>83469091
I always wished that Bubbles on AbFab would be the main character. Ironic, eh?

Straight up wrong. You are like a little baby.
You don't know what alcoholism is.
>>
Also Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is a great place to feel shame and regret.
>>
>>83469330
I don't understand
>>
>>83469388
They show movies from the past. I saw one yesterday called "Slave Boys" about kids in the Depression being exploited by unscrupulous loggers. Then I saw one called The Young Runaways (1968) about teens in the 60s being exploited. It made me feel ashamed of how kids were used by older people in America.

Mad Men. Yes.

dubs magic

"stranger danger" is largely a myth. consider a sort of quasi fermi's paradox. it's the pervert paradox. how many perverts would do something? how many could? how many would actually overcome their guilt if given the opportunity? how many would repeat offend, if they could offend at first? we wind up with a vanishingly small, but nonzero number of offenders. tragic, but let's not pretend it's open season on kids. kids are safer than ever, have better lives than ever before, and have no idea just how good they have it.

LOST or The Leftovers

only drink on special occasions mostly beer
>>
>>83462802
Right now The Leftovers. Even after all the bullshit, now that the dust has settled, I'm still a Battlestar Galactica fan. I guess those are my top 2.

I drink beer every day, I think this qualifies. I consider myself functioning. I never blow off appointments, drink before work, or generally fuck around.
>>
>>83467330
You clearly aren't a drinker.
>>
>>83470738
No one chugs vodka you silly child. I mean, sure, is it physically possible? I guess. Vodka is smooth.
>>
>>83467888
From what ive read the initial drink gives you a head rush because a rush of sugar, then you start feeling numb. All the while its dehydrating you making you thirstier and pushing you to open another. Insidious poison

>>83467733
You can do it bro. Nothing wrong with you, its all the drink. Like me, you've been conditioned since young to think it 'takes the edge off' etc which is all nonsense. Life is way better without it
>>
>>83470827
I've got a high tolerance and I buy cheap pints (basically 8 miniatures). I know if I don't kill it within 5-10 minutes, I won't feel it. A lot of times I'm at work on break, so I don't have time to nurse shit and make mixed drinks. I'm definitely not alone in this.

Long time high-functioning alcoholics drink hard liquor like water.
>>
>>83471026
you may think this is an accomplishment, but if it's true your wildly overtaxing your liver. hope you enjoy an early grave.

stop being ridiculous, and put down the bottle. you know how my dad, lifetime smoker, quite smoking? he put the pack on a bookcase and never touched it again.

the sopranos

no i never really saw the appeal to drinking every day. you feel like total shit afterwards unless you just stay drunk all the time and fuck that.

i used to be an opiate addict though. nearly 3 years clean.
>>
>>83471074
>you may think this is an accomplishment

I have no idea what could have possibly given you that impression. Alcohol is the bane of my existence.
>>
Star Trek TNG.

I used to drink almost everyday for like ten years but I have not touched a drink in months.
>>
All time: X-files
Currently: Better Call Saul and yes, I might have a problem
>>
>>83471447

TNG is fucking comfy as FUCK drunk
>>
Ihmebantu

Kind of, I often binge ~1 liter of vodka/whiskey/calvados + lots of beer, cider and wine

good job my man not as easy task

The X-Files and just because I drink almost every day that doesn't make me an alcohol
