They should make a two-season television series out of the Noldor's journey in The Silmarillion.

We were lucky we got the LotR movies we did, none of these people should touch anything related to the first or second age after what happened with The Hobbit. Hopefully the next in line after Chris dies is as autistic about keeping everyone away from it as he is.

You can't adapt the silmarillion, the same way you can't really adapt the old testament. Audiences are not ready for so many narratives and characters at once. Beren and Luthien alone would easily take 15 hours of film if not more. To script this is a inhuman task, not to mention the loss of intellectual depth present in the original books. You won't get the chants or poems, you won't get the linguistics richness, you will definitely not get close to the elegant literature and poetry of JRRT's prose.
And even if you somehow did, getting the rights would be nearly impossible to begin with.
It's probably better this way. This is a case where it's better to have nothing than something mediocre. See the Hobbit.
>>
The Silmarillion sucks as a whole but some of the individual stories (Fall of Gondolin) are good.
>>
>>83438695
>This is a case where it's better to have nothing than something mediocre. See the Hobbit.

Hobbit should've been a cakewalk of an adaptation. It's happier, easier and more self-contained than LotR. The reason why it sucked was purely monetary.

Pretty much all of Aule's followers or creations seem to suffer from covetousness and desire for power and treasures.

More than three decades after publishing “The Hobbit,” Tolkien spoke about the Jewish-dwarvish connection during a BBC interview.

“I didn’t intend it, but when you’ve got these people on your hands, you’ve got to make them different, haven’t you?” said Tolkien during the 1971 interview. “The dwarves of course are quite obviously, wouldn’t you say that in many ways they remind you of the Jews? Their words are Semitic, obviously, constructed to be Semitic. The hobbits are just rustic English people,”

Regular reminder that beren and luthien is based on the GOAT and his wife Edith:

>"I never called Edith Luthien – but she was the source of the story that in time became the chief part of the Silmarillion. It was first conceived in a small woodland glade filled with hemlocks at Roos in Yorkshire (where I was for a brief time in command of an outpost of the Humber Garrison in 1917, and she was able to live with me for a while). In those days her hair was raven, her skin clear, her eyes brighter than you have seen them, and she could sing – and dance. But the story has gone crooked, & I am left, and I cannot plead before the inexorable Mandos."
>>
>>83439020
>>83439123

>Aule was always faithful to Eru and submitted all his creations to His will. He was never jealous of others' creations, but sought and gave counsel. He enjoyed in the things he made and in the making itself and passed ever to some new work, without hoarding or possessing. For this, there was much strife between him and Melkor who envied him; Melkor always marred his work and Aule always sought to repair them.[1][2]

Aule is basically the embodiment of the white European cuck, creating for others to steal and corrupt and destroy yet always being a good goy and fixing shit for it to be destroyed again

Napoleon had a mind and a charisma, not a magical ring in a fantasy world. Your argument is precisely Boromir's pov. it's a fallacy, a mistake, it leads to nothing but misery. The whole 3 books are about how your pov is an error. Gollum himself is what happens when you keep the One ring. It's even written on the bloody thing:

>Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
>Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
>Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
>One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
>In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
>One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
>One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
>In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

But please keep bringing real life example to demonstrate your lack of reading comprehension. It is amusing to observe such stubbornness.

My point is how would they have known the ring was bad once Isildur kept it? He would not have seen the words because they only appear in fire. All they have is a ring they know gives great power to the wearer. They also have monarchies in middle earth. What's wrong about a monarch (especially a good monarch) getting more power to make his kingdom better? You're using information obtained after Isildur took the ring to say why it was a bad idea to take the ring.

Someone hasn't read the silmarillion. Every reader knew, but nearly everyone in the lore had forgotten about it or were dead by the time of the trilogy.

You're assuming the ring didn't exist before the trilogy while in truth it was forged during the second age and it directly lead to the fall of Numenor, thousand of years before bilbo. The Ring helped Sauron after his defeat against the numenorean fleet. Sauron was able to use the Númenóreans' fear of death as a way to turn them against the Valar, and manipulate them into worshiping his master, Morgoth, and performing human sacrifice. This led to the complete demise and flooding of Numenor by the Valar.
Later the Ring indirectly caused Isildur's death, it was known in Gondorian lore as "Isildur's Bane".

The Ring's primary power was control of the other Rings of Power and domination of the wills of their users.
As the Ring contained a large part of Sauron's power, it was endowed with a malevolent sentience of sorts. While separated from Sauron, the Ring would strive to return to him by manipulating its bearer to claim ownership of it, or by abandoning the bearer at an opportune moment.

Despite its power, the Ring did not render its bearer omnipotent. Three times Sauron suffered military defeat while bearing the Ring, first by Gil-galad in the War of Sauron and the Elves, again by Ar-Pharazôn when Númenórean power so overawed his armies that they deserted him, and again at the end of the Second Age with his personal defeat by Gil-galad and Elendil.

well here's a funny thing.
When Isildur took the Ring from Sauron's hand, it was burning hot, so the letters were legible. Isildur was able to transcribe the inscription before it faded as the Ring cooled. This transcription survived in a document Isildur left himself in Gondor before marching north to the Gladden Fields, where he was killed and the Ring lost. That document is the one Gandalf discovers in the first movie.

I feel like I'm making the same argument over and over again and you just aren't understanding.

>You're assuming the ring didn't exist before the trilogy
Of course I know it existed before the trilogy.

This is all stuff made known to the reader. Would Isildur, at the time, have known the ring was evil or would he just have known it was powerful? The 7 and the 9 rings of power were already in the hands of Sauron's minions when Isildur took the one ring. So if all he knew was that he would have control over the wills of the 16 ringbearers, then I don't see how that's a bad thing. If he knew it was powerful, I don't see how it's bad that he took it either. It's like knowledge of nuclear physics. In the hands of a bad guy it can be used to make a weapon. In the hands of a good guy it can be used to create energy. If Isildur knew that it contained part of Sauron's soul for lack of a better word, then sure, it would be dumb to take it.

So once again. The only question I have, and the only thing you have not addressed in all your posts, is:

Would Isildur, at the time of taking the ring, have known the ring was evil or would he just have known it was powerful?
>>
>>83441369
Okay. This helps to answer my question.
>>
>>83441412
all right I see. in context for the character is the the war nerve then.
well I guess this is comes down to the literature interpretation one makes.

As the reader it is absolutely clear the ring is a tool for evil, it is deceptive and treacherous. Also the only surviving ring bearers are all Hobbits (which only strengthens the claim Gandalf makes about the exceptional nature of hobbits's resiliency and the big role of small folks in the grand scheme of things).

The Ring slowly but inevitably corrupted its bearer, regardless of the bearer's initial intent. For this reason the Wise, including Gandalf, Elrond, and Galadriel, refused to wield it themselves, but determined instead that it should be destroyed. The corrupting power of the ring was apparently stronger on individuals more inclined to evil and selfishness: it took almost immediate hold of the greedy Sméagol as soon as he saw it, and corrupted Boromir after a few months of near proximity, while its effects were only starting to be seen in the well-meaning Bilbo after his sixty years' possession.

Now Isildur is a whole another matter. Isildur was there when Numenor fell. He saw first hand what Sauron had achieved as he fled the great flooding on a boat. Though counselled to destroy the Ring notably by GilGalad and Elrond, he was swayed by its power and kept it safe instead, "as weregild for my father, and my brother". A few years later, Isildur was ambushed by orcs by the River Anduin near the Gladden Fields; he put on the Ring to escape, but it slipped from his finger as he swam across the river, and, suddenly visible, he was killed by the orcs.

So IMO he knew, but he was corrupted rather easily and fast by it as all mortal men have.

small addendum:

the elves knew since the beginning about the true evil nature of the One ring.

Tolkien's essay "Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age" in The Silmarillion gives the background of the making of the rings. At the end of the First Age, Sauron evaded the call of the Valar to surrender, and fled to Middle-earth. Midway through the Second Age he came in disguise as Annatar ("Lord of Gifts") to the Elven smiths of Eregion, who were led by Celebrimbor, and taught them the craft of forging magic rings. Tolkien writes that the Elves made many lesser rings as essays in the craft, but eventually with Sauron's assistance they forged the Seven and the Nine. The Three were made by Celebrimbor himself without Sauron's assistance; they remained unsullied by his touch.

When the Elves wearing the rings discerned Sauron's intention, they immediately removed them and hid them. Sauron invaded the West to recover the rings that the Elves had made; much of the West, including Eregion, was destroyed before he was driven back to Mordor. Sauron recovered the Nine and the Seven, but not the Three, which remained hidden and unsullied.
>>
>>83439551
>Why did Isildur get a bad reputation for keeping the ring?

He didn't. It wasn't known how dangerous the One Ring was at the time or what a big mistake not destroying it was (in fact, Gandalf said that Sauron believed that the Ring HAD been destroyed back then at first, so the fatal effects of destroying the Ring on Sauron were unknown back then) and Isildur didn't live long enough for it to corrupt him.

I will just wait until it hits the tourist bookshop shelves and buy it from there
No way I am waiting until based ms Kolia manages to convince some moronic publisher, it took her almost 20 years for unfinished tales and only because of the movie hype

Because I respect Tolkien enough to buy the works and if I don't the company is less inclined to produce more books in the future.

Angels don't poop, silly. It's explained in Paradise Lost. I assume Tolkienverse angels are roughly the same as ours. Also in Dogma it's shown they don't have dicks, so lewd fic writers BTFO. Galadriel doesn't poop because see pic.

Viggo made some good points about Jackson during an interview. Fellowship was absolute kino. Everything about it was well done. With each new film, Viggo said Jackson became more obsessed with CGI and action. More video game stunts and Legolas ignoring physics. Then the Hobbit happened. The Hobbit was basically a cartoon with the amount of CGI and over-the-top action. It seems like every other scene needed to have a retarded action sequence featuring an "omg some of the dwarves died off camera, jk they're okay" (like the mountain giant battle, the wolves and the tree, etc.). Complete shit-tier adaptation.

No, you dumb cucks. The whole franchise is liberal propaganda about accepting homosexuality and running away from the responsibilities of marriage. You see, that party they threw at the beginning of the movie was actually the wedding for Frodo, but him and his gay lover Sam ran away to destroy the wedding ring. Merry and Pippen were the groomsmen tasked with bringing them back. And the bad guy is a giant flaming vagina. Also Tolkien is one of the biggest cucks among fantasy writers. The hottest chick in the history of his universe has an interracial relationship. He tried to pretend he self-inserts as her bull but it's pretty obvious he self-inserts as the elves she cucked.
>>
>>83449990
It's also possible that, being essentially longer-lived mortals, they just go to the same place as Men.

Alas, nobody ever asked where Ents or the talking and/or sentient animals (Eagles, ravens, spiders, and that random fox who wondered WTF was up with three Hobbits sleeping out of doors in the woods) go.

And then there's Tom Bombadil who's not going anywhere.

T. Bomb prancing around in the woods talking to rabbits and birds for nine hours, a trilogy. In the very end of the second movie he rescues some hobbits from a tree which takes about four minutes on screen, then it's back to prancing.

Agree with fellowship being kino. There was so many scenes shot on location showing the landscape of new Zealand. I dont remember anything from the hobbit films that try to show how beautiful the scenery was. All it was cgi
