Not op but hoping for a response. Huge fan of the original trilogy but when pic came out it looked like it missed the campy, low-low budget, vibe of the OG.

It was "funny" in a different way in that it was so over the top with the violence and grotesquery that I couldn't help but laugh sometimes from just how far they took things.

Most people seemed to expect it to be funny, despite the fact the the original Evil Dead was just plain horror. The comedy element didn't happen until Evil Dead 2.

I absolutely agree, it just went further and further until the end when it's just literally not possibly gorier and it's absolutely hilarious.

People get murdered despite everyone being within earshot of eachother.

Also the way she loses her hand was just dumb.

agreed. It captured everything that made the originals good and added even more. the whole underground tunnels thing was great.

It was really good, final act is great

I would argue that the overall excess of evil dead 1 gave it a camp comedy appeal that was actually toned down in 2 and especially AoD
