Because Drive is simple, this is not. Critics, especially American critics like simple, especially simple and tragic, a good story with snappy and memorable dialogue is what is preferred.

This is more akin to Refn's earlier films, a very formal, mute and abstract experience.

I've seen it twice. No idea what the fuck is going on.

My friend is an artist and submitted a piece to an art magazine and it got published with a bunch of critics trying to figure out what it means and shit. We were sitting around laughing to the point of tears what some of the people wrote about it, how hard the analyzed it when in reality he just painted something totally random with no thought out into it what so ever.

I feel this film is like that.

I personally had only two problems with the movie like how Gosling would almost never talk, and the scene where Gosling sticks his hand into his dead mother, and some of the symbolism is a bit forced and obvious. But other than that the movie is really good. A movie can have flaws and have me still really enjoy it.
