It is genuinely amazing that you were able to watch Prometheus and Covenant without forming any kind of picture of David's character. He gets a lot of screentime in which to establish his motivations and goals through dialogue and action.

Sometimes you need to call people out on being lazy. Ten minutes into Prometheus and you already have a scene that establishes how Weyland considers David a soulless novelty rather than a person, and then it cuts to David being utterly crushed by his father's words. The movie is conveying things.
