What could have been with Brosnan's Bond

Imagine if the Brosnan Bond movies were actually masterpieces instead of what they were?

Sadly, in 20 years time when new generations watch the Brosnan movies, they will consider GoldenEye to be his only best movie and the average average. I know a lot criticize TWINE but I actually find that one his second best. Die Another Day has a decent first act and isn't that bad whereas Tomorrow Never Dies is by far his worst and unmemorable one: just over the top action and so cheesy.

If only the Brosnan Bond movies were as good as Craig's Casino Royale and Skyfall.

Just like Brosnan had recently stated: his movies should have been more dark and gritty. At least we got to see him be a bit of this in some scenes of TWINE but overall Brosnan's Bond films are pretty mediocre apart from GoldenEye.

A shame he only did 4 films and not a 5th as was originally planned before Craig came on the scene.

I'm glad we got the Brosnan films, even if flawed. They made my childhood pretty good watching Bond doing all that cool shit having hot babes all around him. Kids these days don't have the same role models.
>>
Just wanted to say that your ranking is patrician OP

GE > TWINE > DAD > TND

Although I should point out I love the first 3 and have them all in my top 10 whereas TND is like bottom 7

You know you've been here too long when you see Chris Hanson and start to scroll past the thread.

Casino Royale is far and away the best bond film ever made.
Pierce didn't get a fair shake back then with his movies being so campy. He's easily the second best Bond ever right behind Connery.
>>
>>83326500
Same. Every day that goes by I thank god that I at least got to experience the end of the 20th century. I'm 27.
>>
>>83326720
Goldeneye is leagues better than Casino Royale
>>
>>83326295
The second best Bond but out of his four movies I only like GoldenEye
>>
He was the best bond. He was made for the role. Unfortunately, the darker (Bourne) operator-based bond movies didn't start happening until he'd moved on.

I think Hiddleshtien could pull it off now, or Fassbender
>>
Are the rumors true that GoldenEye was originally intended to be a Dalton movie? That explains how dark the movie is and that fight scene near the end between Brosnan and Sean Bean with how bloody they are and how violent they are punching another. LOVED THAT BIT!

Such a shame we didn't get anything as brutal as that or as serious toned in Brosnan's other films due to the filmmakers thinking Brosnan should be more like Roger Moore.

Like others have said: Dalton was a head of his time with Bond and audiences back then I guess wanted more camp.

Despite GoldenEye doing so well, idk why they didn't try to make the sequels similar.
>>
>>83326787
I honestly think that that's your nostalgia talking. I mean I grew up with Goldeneye in the prime time of it, but nothing matches Casino Royale. It is interesting to note that they were directed by the same guy though and then they turn out to be some of the greatest Bond movies of them all.
>>
>>83326846
Fassbender would be absolutely legendary. When Craig officially steps down from the role and they do not pick Fassbender as the next Bond... I will be so depressed, so angry, so annoyed.

Fassbender has everything that would make him a 10/10 Bond and I so hope they pick him.

X Men First Class felt like his audition with that bar scene:

>>83326846
>didn't start happenin

You do know Dalton came before Brosnan, right?
>>
>>83326941
Martin Campbell knows how to make a good Bond movie. Sam Mendes as well was great with his Skyfall and Spectre.

idk why people consider Spectre so bad because apart from the weak car chase and Blofeld being badly written: the movie had a perfect Bond feel! Miles better than the trainwreck that we got with QoS

Why do people hate this? Apart from some cheesy lines it has a really solid story and I loved the villain.
>Bullet lodged in brain and doing everything he can before his inevitable death
>>
>>83327003
I've only seen Spectre once and it was in the theater. I'd have to revisit it. I do remember it had one of the best opening scenes ever. QoS is one of the worst pieces of shit I've ever seen in my life. I agree with the anon that said that Craig is a good Bond but his average is fucking awful with how good his movies are.
>>
>>83326941
>>83326787
Anybody who seriously considers Casino Royale the best has absolutely guaranted not seen more than 10 Bond films.
>>
>>83327070
Because the story is terrible, the action scenes are just padding instead of helping to propel the story forward, Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist is one of the worst bond girls, and the Bond gadgets are forgettable. It's dumb fun, sure, but so was DAD, and nobody would consider that trash as "good".

People may be hating TND in this thread, but it at least was a well written action movie, had a bunch of great bond gadgets, the bond girls were great, and the story touched on media manipulation, which was an interesting avenue to take for a bond villain.

>I'd have to revisit it.
I rewatched it the other month and I gotta say that bits improved apart from the way they handled Blofeld saying how he murdered his father due to his father taking in Bond. That still is very weak and I can understand people being put off by that moment BUT I actually felt very sorry for Mr White and how he being much older, wanted to escape from Spectre and now with his daughter's life in danger, he entrusts Bond to look after her. And that scene when they stumble across Mr White's secret room and his daughter sees pictures of her and her father together. I found that actually emotional.

Also the scene when Bond is walking slowly under London and Blofeld has images of Vesper, M on the wall. That was actually pretty powerful.

It's a decent movie that could have been much better if more time was put into it but I still really enjoyed it with a second viewing.

I love how the train fight is a tribute to the train fight scene in From Russia With Love.

Having read the Casino Royale book, that film is a perfect adaption of Bond in novel form although I haven't read the other Bond novels yet so not sure if Fleming has any of the cheesiness that say Roger Moore had. Nothing wrong with that as I do enjoy the Moore movies a lot (Moonraker is amazing) but if you are going for the most accurate depiction of Bond: definitely Daniel Craig handles it extremely well in Casino.

Although it's a pity they changed the card game that was Baccarat in the novel to be Texas Hold'Em in the movie.

Listening to Bond explain how to play Baccarat in the novel was really good and would have been great if they got Craig to play that instead.

I wish the ending of Spectre was a Spectre agent driving past and killing Bond's new gf just like in the ending of OHMSS.

That would have made for a good ending. I don't mean to just rip off the ending of OHMSS but considering Spectre deals with Blofeld and all, this ending would have suited the movie well.

There was an article saying about if Craig returns for another film, they should do this. Have her die whilst Blofeld now has more of a reason to hate Bond due to Bond shooting down his plane and crippling him.

The film will end with both Bond and Blofeld dying together in a big fight. No happy ending for Craig's Bond.

Bond gets into an underwater battle with a giant squid in Dr No then he buries Dr No in a giant pile of bat shit, theres definitely some wacky cheesy shit lol
>>
>>83327504
I did find the part in the Casino Royale novel funny when Bond is casually walking down a road when some villain emerges from a tree and tries to throw a bomb but the bomb blows up before he can throw it.

And the scene during the card game when an enemy points a walking stick close to Bond which is actually a secret gun and Bond saves his life by pretending to accidentally fall back and by doing so he crushed the walking stick gun. Meanwhile everyone around the table stops and stares while Bond gets up embarrassed.

yes, goldeneye was written for dalton. it took too long to get made. i don't remember how long offhand, i think like six years and dalton understandably bailed on the project. dalton would have made goldeneye the best bond film of all time

you're a fucking retard. brosnan sucked and his only good film is goldeneye because it was written to be played by dalton. the script was good enough to cover for brosnan's hammy performance that didn't fit at all

You are missing the point. Brosnan's Bond movies sucked because of the bad writing whereas if they continued to write them dark and Dalton like, then Brosnan would have been amazing in them like he was in GoldenEye.

Watch the film I.T. he made a year ago. He is really good in that.

Brosnan also has a new film coming out where he plays some hitman who is haunted by the memories of those he killed. Not sure the name and don't think it's on IMDB yet but a friend showed me some info about it. Should be released by end of this year so look for that as well.

Also check out the November Man which feels like a Bond film very much.

Agreed. Goldeneye isn't one of my favorites but his performance alone makes it worth watching

Fassbender would be unbelievable but I have a sense they're going to go with Elba or another black actor for the next one

I've said Fassbender since the first mention of replacing Craig. I doubt they will do something so sensible and good as that though.

Yeah people have been saying that Fassbender is too famous, old, german, whatever but I would like it if he just gets to be Bond for once. He would love Moneypenny.

Casino royal>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any other bond film

>inb4 mad goldeneye fags

It was the same director that did both. In saying that, martin campbell is the GOAT new bond director. He should come back and direct when there's a new actor again.

ALSO, WHEN THE FUCK ARE WE GOING TO HEAR ABOUT THE NEXT BOND FILM ?

You can never really tell with lighting/makeup. There are fantastic wigs, hair transplants, all that shit.

Yes, Brosnan could be one of the lucky ones, but a lot of the guys in Hollywood are doing transplants, or have wigs. It's not real life.

Fassbender is the best choice if they're seriously considering him. He's got the look and he's got the chops. No doubt he could go down the best Bond if they gave him good scripts

>>83328850
Stupid if people are saying that. Craig has blond hair and blue eyes and he's received universal acclaim.

So what if he's already famous? That would be the stupidest reason to turn him down, at least on the business side.
>>
>>83330027

Yeah Moore was already famous because of The Saint and The Persuaders and Brosnan because of Remington Steele. For the studios it would only make it more likely for them to choose Fassbender.
