You're not allowed to like it, but not for the reasons you suggest. The reason you are forbidden to like it is because it's all talk and no trousers. The visuals, sound and overall portentous tone try to deceive you into thinking that you are watching something genuinely dark and weighty. But the actual content of the film never delivers on this. The PG-13 restriction robs it of any impact it might have had, and in the end it's no more "dark" than the Burton films - maybe even less so because Burton had some quite adult sexual jokes and suggestiveness in his bat films.

I would say that Burton's use of sex is kind of "dark", given that it is steeped in fetishism. Also, the Penguin is grotesque and it is quite dark to have him leering and letching around.
