I get this is a shitpost, but I have always genuinely wondered this. I watched the first season or 2, and I've never understood the hype or love. Image related is a qt, but that doesn't explain the massive runaway popularity.

I mean, shit, a naval crime show has some of the highest fanfiction numbers out there. What is there you could possibly write that much shit about?

Well, NCIS is a part of the longest running multi franchise television universe, With JAG, Hawai 5-0 (the new one and the one from 1968 )and even Magnum PI, i think.
Which is kind of confusing since magnum was mentioned on ncis as a tv show.

I've never seen this show, but my 22-year-old girlfriend loves it. I promised I'd watch it with her some time but haven't gotten around to it yet.

She doesn't watch any other TV besides college football and rarely ever watches movies. NCIS seems to be the only show she likes. I asked her if she likes crime shows and she said not particularly, but that she likes the characters in NCIS and thinks they're funny.

Then you might be disappointed. The Navy is a small part of the backdrop and they will come up with any reason to have the team work any type of murder. If a retired marine has a suspicious stroke on vacation in Norway, you better believe it's a job for Naval investigators.

It's not bad. The premise, naval military police basically, is fairly interesting and the cast is fairly strong. (One of the spinoffs has the guy who played Robin in Forever and & Robin, and that one little gremlin woman who looked old when she was young.)

It's more the runaway popularity amongst normies that is confusing. It's CSI tier, imo. Something you watch if the internet is down and there are no Futurama/ManVersusFood/StorageWars reruns to kill braincells with. It's not even comfy to leave on in the background like Star Trek reruns.

The first five/six seasons (I forget where the original 'end' was, it's been a while) are actually amazing urban-horror with just enough drama and comedy to earn that praise.

Problem is, it did so well that they decided the end wasn't the end, and have been coasting on steadily more stupid plotlines and the character drama looping for years now. It's still okay, but nowhere near as good as it was. I haven't watched most of this season yet.

It also suffers from severe Flanderization.

One thing that really pisses me off is what they did to Angels. Originally, they were nigh-invulnerable killing machines so far beyond even the strongest monster that they would usually just die almost instantly. A supernatural-killing knife didn't even hurt one on it's first appearance. Hitting them had the Superman effect.

Now? They are basically mooks, with even low grade demons casually able to kill them, and normal hits phasing them.

If you want to see legitimate terrible acting on a broad scale, check out Charmed.

It wasn't until I had it pointed out to me, but every single actor on Charmed doesn't know what to do with their arms. They will stand around talking, attempting to emote, etc, and their arms will be just sitting there, rigid, at their sides. You'd think this would get better as the series goes on, but it gets worse. Also the actors can't portray emotion properly in their face. A lot of the time there will be anger or something in their voice and a stoic expression. Haven't seen anything like it, I've seen better acting in sitcoms.

Its the kind of thing you think you'll never enjoy and then you're unemployed for three years and suddenly you enjoy it. Same with Law and Order SVU. NCIS is the only one I watch though. The other NCIS spinoffs I don't really care for. Procedural cop shows are the same. The cast is what makes it.

He was a loner type, who spent most of his time playing LOL, was fairly straight edge (as in he rarely drank and never smoked a joint in his life), and I'm pretty sure a virgin.
