I don't understand why some shows have such a huge drop off. Game of Thrones being the biggest example, in terms of both audience and quality. S1 was absolutely fantastic, by the end of S2 it was mediocre, and these days it's completely unwatchable.

All the new HBO shows are crap too.

The Walking Dead was the same. Great S1. S2 was meandering and boring. S3 was about carrot farming or some other shit and random people dying in stupid ways. I stopped watching there but from what I gather it's just full of absolutely retarded characters.

S1 was good because it was almost 1:1 with the book. S2 started to deviate, but it was understandable as there's just too much in the book to adapt and a lot of lesser things needed to be dropped.
S3 just started to head out into left field and it's been getting further and further from the source ever since. At this point it's just its own thing, completely separate from the book.

Both have a clear leitmotif but GoT played with variations of it in S6 and generally got more variations. LotR just repeats it, and it's probably the only good piece about it. Overall it sounds too generic.
