How preachy is this show? I want to watch it, but reading reviews like this,
>http://www.newstatesman.com/culture/tv-radio/2017/05/handmaid-s-tale-dystopian-dread-new-golden-age-television
makes me a little worried that the show will be extremely preachy and anti-male. People don't actually believe the trump admin is a fascist regime bent on taking over all women and killing them, do they? This review made my fucking eyes bleed and I didn't even vote for Trump.

It's on hulu. No one watches that.

The book was sort of understandable when it first came out and the Christian Right was a fresh scary movement for feminists and their friends, but the Christian Right hasn't accomplished anything in the 40-50 years of its existence. Trump doesn't even have anything to do with what the book criticizes. It's a cash-in on people who are still delusional enough to think that the Christian Right is two steps away from establishing some sort of evangelical theocracy (or even more retardedly that Trump would be behind it). The author of the book is also a known Canadian and insufferable lefty.
You might still like it if you ignore the progressive bullshit behind it and just enjoy it as a fantasy story.

Yes. the book is genuinely good. And I was looking forward to the series, but it has been a huge disappointment.
The pilot was expertly directed, but everything else is a pile of boring shit.
Now the plot is, "I have to get out to find my husband, who is in the resistance?"
Ugh. It's so boring and trite that I have stopped watching, and I read the book twice.

Well, to be fair, the show was not greenlit as a political screed against Trump. They didn't even know he was running at the time.
The problem overall is that feminist storytelling is a blind alley, and just not that interesting.
Can anyone give me an example? Look at how contemporary social justice thinking ruined American Gods. It's pathetic.
That's why I think Twin Peaks is such a fresh breath of air. It doesn't give a fuck about politics.

It really isn't preachy. It doesn't have to be. The story and atmosphere speak for themselves. The characters are all fairly cynical about what's going on
It's basically how Iran and Said Arabia treat women but instead of Muslims it's Christians. It is a touch antimale. Especially the black character.

Well, that's part of the problem. There is no genuine fear. Everyone is "you go girl" like the last shot of one of the episodes. When there are no stakes, there's no interest.

I don't like the Resistance angle either but I do like watching Moss, she is a fantastic actress and the scenes between her the Commanders wife are great.

Can't comment on the series but the book is trash. A witless rehashing of ideas from 1984 and Brave New World with a dash of Scarlet Letter and some feminism thrown in for good measure. It's neither good sci-fi nor compelling literature.
This show is better directed, filmed, written, and presented than most shows on television. I really don't give a shit about the sjw agenda. It's good television. Name 5 other dramas on TV that are currently better than it at the things that I listed.

>preachy
zero. If anything it's a satire on muslim/religioius culture

Film is a storytelling medium. A work can be visually gorgeous and wonderfully acted, but if the story is awful then the whole endeavour is pointless.
