What went so right?
I can't think of much that's good about the movie. But it wasn't bad either.

compared to other masterpieces of 2016, it was pretty good

no, compared to the mediocrity of 2016, it was also mediocre.

It's visually stunning
I liked it but I thought it got silly whenthe guy ripped off his face and casually walked after the MC
Really surprised by how good it was. A successful slow paced adult Hitchcockian thriller might as well be a fucking unicorn these days.

agree, didn't see `creepy mysterious medical facility thriller` for a long time. reminded me of Shutter Island

It was way better than Shutter Island because it didn't take itself too seriously and it wasn't banging us over the head with "he might just be crazy!!!" every five minutes.
I don't get why critics trashed it. I liked it a lot and it looked great.
I mean of course the facility turned out to be evil, butusing human bodies as eel filters to get youth serumwas neat.

I think Shutter Island works way better on repeat views when you realize that you are meant to understand he is crazy from the first scene in the film. Then you can watch a character very tragically struggle with a towering weight of grief.

DELET THIS

I think it was just too strange for a major studio film to be honest.
I'm glad I saw it in a theater, so gorgeous on the big screen.

The whole sinister insane asylum story needs some pulpiness to it otherwise it a becomes fairly tedious exercise.

Shutter Island ending was bittersweet af and gave me deep feels when i realized how fucked up MC is and though he understands it - he can't do nothing about it.

i didn't get the feels from Cure for Wellness though, but it was solid
