The ending to the original dragonball was better. I'm not a huge fan of dragonball in general, but I did like the fantasy-ish adventure feel the original series had, and Goku flying away to have more adventures after turning down the opportunity to become a god was just perfect. GT sucked ass, and the ending left a lot lacking.

There's this huge tournament coming up and 8 out of the 12 universes are required to put a team together and enter. Universe 6 is having trouble finding strong mother fuckers, so their god of destruction decides he wants Saiyans for his team after watching Goku and Vegeta in action, and he sends this Saiyan kid Cabba (who we've seen in a previous arc) to recruit more of his kind. This was implied to be a terrible idea for reasons that haven't really been explained in detail, though likely because Cabba was the only Super Saiyan they had at that point.

They ran into huge time problems shortly after airing which plagued Super's animation quality up until now but it feels like they finally have a decent timeplan since the creation of the dragonball room and the animation starts to look better for the most part.

I think the biggest problem with Super is that it lacks dramatic tension. If you go back and watch the Frieza and Cell saga, those villains are terrifying; Frieza is a psychopath who enjoys killing for killings sake. he doesn't give a shit who he kills and finds amusement in senseless cruelty. Cell is a mindless killing machine with no sense of right or wrong. He simply eats because that is what he's programmed to do. They were really well written villains, and their was a sense of danger from them.

There's an old article on the net, where they're interviewing the DB anime producers, one thing they talk about is Dragon Ball's success and one of the main reasons is the screenwriter, apparently making an anime isn't just animating scenes and slapping them together, the screenwriter they hired was a guy that was capable of adapting a not very successful manga into a very successful anime, and if you think about the success of DB and DBZ, how after watching an episode it left you wanting to watch the next one, you'll realize that there was a whole team of very talented people working on it.

The original lore om saiyens was much more interesting and nuanced. They were a race of blood thirsty warrior monkeys who loves to fight. They weren't good guys, they were dangerous mercenaries. Bardock hints at this, he wants Goku to overcome the violent legacy of the saiyen race's past. This just glosses all over that. They're just flanderized versions of the real thing.

Even if they brought him back, he would have nothing to work with, the anime and manga are being made from vague notes given to them by Toriyama, Toei should stop and wait for Toyotaro to get ahead with the manga (he's still making the Zamasu arc), there are many problem with the DBS anime, but having manga chapters to adapt into anime in my opinion would probably solve many of its issues.

It goes beyond that. The whole concept lends itself to no dramatic tension. Introducing 4 tiers of gods who are stronger than Goku (and likely will remain stronger than Goku for most of the series) destroys all tension. There is a reason the Zamsu arc was the best one: it took the gods out of the equation for most of the arc. Supreme Kai being a useless shit in the Buu arc was low key one of the best ideas for the same reason.

So the arc that was supposed to be an actual arc was great? The first two arcs were just movie recaps they made for something to do with rights.
The second arc was just to expand the world and showcase the size of the multiverse and explain the hierarchy of gods while explaining the fundamentals.
