I have liked two episodes of the season a lot, episode 1 and episode 4. Every other episode has felt bereft of much emotion and filled with what I see as lazy writing. The show has felt completely without a focus despite the intriguing premise set up in episode 1 with the new testament written by Matt. All of the characters are so far apart from one another that their standalone episodes don't add much of a feeling of coherency or significance to the overall arc of the season. The jokey tone also doesn't do all that much for me and I find the overall bluntness of the metaphors to be a little too much this season.

Also, could anyone who really likes this show explain why it is set in Australia? It's very hard for me to think of a rational justification for that decision aside from it makes many plot developments convenient.

What do you want done to you /tv/? Burial at sea for me.

Also my gf stopped watching the show despite season 2 being her favourite season of any tv show. Another of my friends who loved the previous two seasons has similar feelings to me.

The love for it is completely bewildering to me. Most of the new episodes (excepting 4 especially) are even shot poorly with extremely simple shot-reverse-shot set ups that do little to distract from the numbing boredom of most of the expository conversations.

We really won't know until the end, but so far the only episode I think was like that for me was the Laurie episode. Besides the fact that I never liked her as a character I felt like wasting an entire episode about her suicide didn't make sense. Kevin doesn't show up until like the last 5 minutes as well. Fuck Laurie, she's an episode killer.

I felt like basically the entirety of the Kevin sr episode was just lazy writing and mostly dull. It was him explaining plot events to non-characters and basically doing nothing that we couldn't have learned about in far less time.

The show just seems to have so little focus in this season.

Anyway, I hope I'll like tonight's episode when the download becomes available. I like 1 and 4 so much so I still have hope that I might end up liking these last two episodes.

I love “God Only Knows” as much as the next guy, and I get the idea of the clashing tones, which is precisely why I loved the Wu-Tang moment in episode two. I love how much S3 plays with the subversion of expectations, to the point where this is beginning to feel like some sort of commentary on the reaction and culture surrounding LOST. It feels too methodical to be anything but at this point. S3 of this show is literally the antithesis of every season finale, almost on a borderline Sopranos level. To effectively conclude your shows main plot thread before the finale is a really bold and interesting decision. Time will tell if it pays off.

There is no explanation. It's a truly absurd event that can't be explained. My interpretation is that it's just a more in-your-face absurdity as opposed to the absurdity of existence in the first place. People go on with their lives without having the most solid grasp of why they exist, or in the show universe why some just randomly disappeared. People make attempts to explain it away or cope with it (new religious cults, complete nihilism, some pretend like it's no big deal, etc.) but the show in essence is about the resolute tendency to cope with the unexplainable by giving a ridiculously strange event and showing how the world reacts.

It's essentially about the human condition and how man faces the Absurd that philosophers like Camus and Kirkegaard wrote about.

This season really could have benefited from 10 total episodes. It's hard to not feel like its a little rushed in terms of character development. Every character pretty much got one episode to end their arc.
