The pacing is absolutely terrible and a lot of the characters are underdeveloped. You can tell the studio cut out a ton of vital scenes to make it less than 3 hours long. It desperately needs an extended director's cut.

Because in this stupid movie Moses is just a lunatic who gets hit by a rock on the head, thinks God gave him a mission. The splitting of the sea is actually shown as a Tsunami provoked by a coincidental meteorite. Basically Scott couldn't help shoving his atheistic worldview in a religious tale.
The seven plagues are displayed in a comical way.
