Alternatively, it's better than the infamous "fuck the fans" approach that the Ghostbusters remake took.

Though it's unclear if The Rock means fans of the series or fans of the remake itself. If it's the former, I doubt there are any actual Baywatch fans and if they still exist they certainly weren't clamoring for a 21 Jump Street-esque parody film. If it's the latter, then they can't be fans before seeing it, so they couldn't have made it for them.
