You are the most degenerate, twisted, mentally ill people I’ve ever seen, wanting to gang-rape this Republic and this country.

You people are enemies, and we’re going to get your asses, and we know what you’re up to, and we’re coming for you!
>>
The Doctor gets Bill to shoot him. He pretends to become evil throughout the episode to get this to happen. He figures out that Bill's care for the Doctor allowed the consent to happen, and if she proves that care is lost then the consent is broken.

The Doctor then starts regenerating as seen in the trailer.

you seriously want a "get out of jail free" card this quickly

this is why they got rid of the Sonic Screwdriver in the 80s
>>
>>83266092
You're not looking at it from the right angle. If they were gonna put him in jail, they should've locked him up in Fort Knox, not in fucking Mayberry General with Deputy Fife dangling the keys a foot away from the bars. If a solution is viable and obvious, then the situation that it could resolve shouldn't be presented.

I dunno if there's something relevant to this topic in that video; if there is, just say it.
>>
>>83266077
>Their retinas are so sophisticated that they can almost think on their own. In addition to rods and cones their eyes are equipped with octagons, gives them amazing night vision and the ability to see, and recall, an amazing amount of detail in something over 100 yards away. They can shift their vision outside the normal visual spectrum allowing them to see a total of 170 different levels of the electromagnetic specturm, including in some shades of ultraviolet. However, having their second heart removed prevents them from reprogramming how their eyes work. There's a lot of evidence that their eye color can change depending on mood. Their pupil response is very different from humans and can resist super intense photo-emissions that would permanenlty blind a human. They can control the musculature of their eyes to bring things into a very precise focus. (If they remember to check) they can tell whether a humanoid is Gallifrey just by looking at them. Despite all this, blindness is not unknown on Gallifrey.

This is probably jumping on from the TV movie where the retina scan is used as a security feature. Why? Because it's sophisticated and difficult to break. Probably difficult to replace too.

Although if you take the half human shit to be true (which isn't really, but Moffat liked to tease that with the Hybrid statement) there's only a very unique combo of antigens he probably doesn't react to and moreover he can probably fix it with a regen but it might just be a waste of energy. Should you, shouldn't you.

It's not about a "get out of jail free card." It's just that even if the time lords didn't have a cure for blindness, the doctor has come across aliens/future humans who have had medical tech advanced enough to cure it. It's just retarded.

Overall, I think 1st Doctor stories are better, but the 2nd Doctor is pretty awesome, as is his dynamic with Jamie (Zoe's pretty cool too), so I might actually enjoy the 2nd Doctor's run more (despite too many monster-of-the-week stories). The 2nd Doctor has the most missing episodes though, so expect a hard slog if you had trouble making it through the 1st Doctor because of that.

You mean the one the Doctor couldn't open? He explained that the screwdriver could calculate the code, but the lock itself would have to be manually pushed into place — it was made up of four dials, which couldn't be shifted into place unless the user knew into what position he wanted them to be in. And, if the Doctor knew that, he wouldn't even need the sonic.

I make things like this but I haven't really felt any inspiration to make things in a while

the name stemmed from when we used to do those audio adventures - I did the covers for the Eight/Twelve audio the original file of which I don't have anymore thanks to a hard drive crash last year and for the cancelled Third Doctor/Delgado Master silo audio

I can't believe THIS week was actually finally the kino we were waiting for

That was pretty GOAT, started slow but got better and better as it went on. Only silly bit was the Doctor jumping immediately to Bacteria but I can forgive it because he could've just used his process of elimination to end up at the answer even with more possibly things it could be.

GREAT ending. Blindness actually fucking mattered to the story. Bill fucked it all up GG Bill, I love a good proper consequence in a Moffat story. Damn that was good. Felt some real suspense throughout.

I'm about to go back and read the old threads myself, but please tell me anyways what has /who/s reaction been like?

Pretty excited for next week's to see how they unfuck this, but I'm cautious cause it looks like it could be either great or really weak.
>>
>>83268837
be careful of /pol/

I thought it was pretty good, an interesting set-up for next week
>>
>>83268837
It was a good concept and had the potential to be GOAT. But it ended up being average because of a bunch of shit that could have completely avoided with a few tweaks.
>>
>>83268837
The plot was contrived and all of the non-tardis characters were boring as fuck, the doctor getting caught up with his blindness would have been a redeeming moment were it not nullified by the fact that the doctor's fucking used his sonic sunglasses to stream video footage before and he could have gotten bill to guide him and had no issues

I genuinely don't understand what you saw in this episode to consider it GOAT

The doctor spent the entire episode saying "fuck the monks don't fall for their shit"
and now suddenly the next episode has the doctor working for the monks, a plot that is not set up in this episode at all
what the fuck are they doing and why did moff think three different people writing three parts of an episode was a good idea?

I'm really not sure how I feel about The Pyramid at the End of the World, or where to rank it. I felt bored during most of it, even more so than Knock Knock. A lot of it felt goofy too, and not in a good way. But on the other hand, the ideas it was going for were more interesting and more ambitious than a lot of other S10 episodes.

Here's my ranking now, maybe:

Extremis
Thin Ice
Oxygen
Smile
The Pyramid at the End of the World
Knock Knock
The Pilot

Part of me feels like it should be two places higher because of its ambition, and another part of me feels like it should be two places lower because of its execution. At least next episode looks good.
>>
>>83269339
After you've seen that, watch Listen then Heaven Sent
>>
>>83269361
I thought it was a massive step up from Extremis. I felt bored throughout Extremis.

I don't get something, even if Nardole got sick from the bacteria why would the TARDIS have any trouble dematerializing? As much as I like to see the TARDIS struggling this made no sense to me.
>>
>>83269361
I feel the same, but personally I lean towards the "two places lower because execution" side
There are far too many little contrived bits to handwave away.
>>
>>83269361

You have a point about The Pilot, but personally I rank it there out of principle because to me it doesn't really feel like a proper episode. It's a flashy opener without a plot. I'd rather rewatch it over Knock Knock but I still rank it last, if that makes sense.

You're dead wrong about Thin Ice though.

>>
>>83269387
I'll never understand how somebody can recommend watching Heaven Sent without at least recommending they watch Face the Raven first.

Ignore everybody and just watch all the episodes in the correct order.
>>
>>83269555
Heaven Sent tells you everything you need to know about Raven, especially for people who don't care about clala
>>
>>83269555
Exactly. Heaven Sent's impact is because of Clara's relationship to 12.
>>
>>83269580
You say that but I highly doubt you saw Heaven Sent before you saw Face the Raven. Anybody who hadn't would be spending too much time distracted by "mysteries" like how did the Doctor get here, and what happened to Clara, rather than being able to focus on the episode's actual mysteries.

Besides, Face the Raven is a solid episode so there's no conceivable reason to skip it. You're just making their viewing experience worse.

>>
How does the Doctor putting his hands in some monitors upload secret documents?
>>
>>83269339
Yeah, watch all of Series 8, after Day of the Doctor.

Each ep of Series 8 has a connection to the emotional arc of Clara and 12's relationship. If you watch them in order, you realize that even the relatively standalone eps show some facet of the relationship, that climaxes in the final scene of Death In Heaven. Skipping around can make you lose that.
>>
>>83267230
It was unclear how big the explosion was really. I thought they were going to run back to the TARDIS but they just stood there. And it looked like the door was wide-open and fire flooded into the room they were standing in? So he probably would've survived long enough to regenerate.

I was actually expecting him to tell Bill about regeneration, that he won't really die, to try to convince her not to consent to the Monks but for Bill to dismiss him as lying to her just so she'd let him die.

Why is nobody talking about how incredibly contrived the doctor magically coming up with and locking onto the idea that it was a biochemical threat was? There was absolutely no proof that he was on the right track, but even before he turned all the security cameras off the doctor was acting like it was definitely the correct thing.
It's quite literally the worst instance of "coming up with the correct answer because the plot required it" I've ever seen. There was no path of logic to coming up with the conclusion, it was literally just "hey what about biochemical" "oh yeah that's the one"

Was harness behind schedule or something? That combined with the magical eye fix was incredibly lazy writing

When the last two episodes have gone out of their way to show how hard restoring the doctor's eyesight is, and then it's finally restored by literally less than a handwave, yes that is the work of a hack fraud
>>
>>83274093
They are all still inside a simulation. A simulation inside another simulation.
>>
>>83274251
This. Except this time it's the Doctor's work. IRL the Monks will see the planet is protected, get scared of the Doctor and fuck offerino.
>>
>>83274237
It's the climax of the episode and comes at the cost of the whole Earth, that's the opposite of a handwave.
>>
>>83274309
The opposite of a handwave would be if the monks actually had to do something to restore the doctor's eyesight. Consequences are an entirely separate thing to the means themselves.

S10 is probably my favourite season but I still admit that Pyramid was pretty weak.

But Bill is not important to the universe.

Donna wasn't important until the finale

Is that really the best photo they could take? It's like Toms season 18 titles

Did we add these just to pad out the number of correct boxes?

They have a machine that lets them reshape the entire Earth according to their wishes, it'd be weird if it couldn't do something as simple as fix the Doctor's eyesight. It's clear they can do almost anything as long as it fits within their weird consent rules because they're basically fucking magic and there's nothing wrong with that.

4.01 million watched last night's episode.

that's not good writing

Pyramid was an audio drama in televisual form. And was fairly good.

Yes.

Although it was a Gatiss episode so basically non-canon
>>
>>83274687
Are all ear stories seriously that boring and lacking in character drama?
>>
>>83274687
Explain.
>>
>>83274787
All talk, no action, also literally describing the scenery that they see
>>
>>83273338
I don't think I can really judge episodes in terms of, like, "not that good", or "pretty good", or "whatever/10".
Doctor Who is (and will always be) Doctor Who-tier, with all typical Doctor Who-tier flaws.
Unless a story is outstandingly great (like "Blink" or "Heaven Sent") or really shitty - it's okay and enjoyable.
"Pyramid" was okay and enjoyable.

I find it difficult to specifically rank things too but what you're saying is silly. Obviously you can assess Doctor Who episodes in relation to other Doctor Who episodes. "Not very good" is just about as vague and noncommiting you can get.
>>
>>83274993
It may have been incredibly stupid, but I love how Capaldi delivered this line
