REMINDER THAT MARSHALL IS INTRODUCED NEXT WEEK

In the middle of S1, we had a lone Dalek story and the introduction of Satellite Five. Revisited in the finale.

In the middle of S2, we had the introduction of the parallel world and Cybermen. Revisited in the finale.

In the middle of S3, we were introduced to the fobwatch idea. Revisited in the finale.

In the middle of S5, we were shown the effects of the crack in time. Revisited in the finale.

Series 6 focused in a lot on the Silence/Kovarian/River stuff, with both the opener and mid-series finale playing a part in the finale.

In the middle of S9, we had Maisie Williams becoming immortal. Revisited in the finale.

So when people are speculating about these Monks turning out to be Mondasian Cybermen in the finale, I think there's definitely some credence to the idea. Lots of series have introduced key things mid-series, which have then been played out further in the finale

Monks are letdown. I say this as a Doctor Who fan.

First of all, the design.
They looked amazing on promos and on-set pictures, but in episodes they look like cheaper versions of pyroviles. Out of synch speech just feels stupid and not cool at all.

Second, the story around them.
We've still got part three, but by this point we know nothing about their origins and motives (except for WE NEED TO BE LOVED)
What is more, Extremis was literally useless in terms of storytelling because Doctor calling himself didn't made any difference to the plot of the episode. He would just as find them, sneak into pyramid, know about their plans etc.
