Why was early Friends so comfy?
cause youre a nigger
cause you're a woman
Because the writing was good and the women were hot.
All that changed around season 3.
Because the characters weren't cartoon characters yet

basically this, plus the writers gave a shit and didn't do the same tropes over and over again
audience needs some subversion of their expectations or they'll just get bored, first season friends was mean to its characters but respected them and so the audience could laugh along at their fuckups. when they were all cartoon characters we couldn't relate and stopped caring about their shitty one-episode-lasting problems
(still watchable to the end though just for the occasionally great jokes/moments, but seasons 1-2 were its peak)

Lots of scenes of the gang just hanging out. It felt far more organic. In later seasons they more often split up episodes into A, B and C plots, with two friends to each plotline.

holy run on sentence batman.
Go back and watch season 1 and Joey is just a wiseguy who's a bit dim. By season 10 he's a functioning retard. Can't imagine what they'd have don't to him by season 15. That episode of him trying to learn French was kind of emblematic of how much the writers bastardised the characters.

it's 4 sentences
people on this site don't always use correct punctuation
anyone else notice how in the early seasons the characters actually laugh at each other's jokes and slip-ups?

Pro-tip: Practice good grammar. Your future employees will expect this from you.

they still do in the later seasons, but usually only if the character is in the background and not directly involved in the conversation
