It's basically the coolest sci-fi weapon that has ever been created so I don't think it can be topped. The best bet would be to not focus on the weapon but on character development and creating different more interestingly-designed ships. And this is sci-fi so you could come up with interesting ideas that are not explicitly visual like the death star. In Eureka 7 they had multiple dimensions and time travel. The intense possibilities of this can be found in films like Back to the Future. This could also allow Disney to bring back the death star. I currently have no interest in the future of Star Wars and think it's beyond saving, these are just theoretical ideas.
