You're inadvertently falling for the memes. The show isn't hard to follow at all. It does have some weird stuff but nothing that subtracts from the coherency of the overall plot.

Twin peaks reminds me very much of modern art, Lynch could get an actor to take a shit on a plate and you would praise him for his direction in the drop,
the meaning portrayed in the curls, the smell would convey the decay and rot present in the minds of men.
To me it would just be shit, and Twin peaks is.
