I unironically have bought the three Rambo soundtracks on cd. They're great, even when unrelated to the movie. Jerry Goldsmith, Mark Isham, Alan Silvestri, John Barry,.. What happened to movie music.
Last music I thought was epic before even having seen the movie was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzVBqBosf5w and that was fucking 1999. T

That's some Philip Glass Tier shit. With the emphasis on shit. I need for my music to be a bit more popcorn than this. In all seriousness: can anyone remember a soundtrack from past the noughts that's stuck in the collective conciousness?

What happened was that Hans Zimmer reinvented how movie scores should 'sound', and now everyone tries to mimic him without understanding how his mind operates at all. Even he has been pressured to adhere to the perversion of the sound he invented 20 years ago.

Is this a joke? Johannson is one of the worst 'composers' working in film today; and he's against some stiff competition for that title.

I was talking about recognizability. '8O and '9O were way better for that in television too. I have nothing against soundtracks not being noticed. Sometimes it's even a quality. Nowadays, it seems as if the soundtrack is almost exlusively used as a narrative force for the movie. Which is far from a complaint is it. But it is.

Sounds pretty good. I have yet to see a single bad movie George Clooney was in. When he's on his own, of course.

Character "themes" are now outdated. Nobody wants a score thats fluid and animated. They just want brap horns and heavy drums for every single scene.
IMO a good film score lets you relive the movie just by listening. Williams and his contemporaries did this well, but by mid-2000s it was all over. modern soundtracks are garbage
