Twin peaks first 2 series is so comfy, this is just pure Lynch.
I knew it was coming but it's still a little disappointing for a casual fan. Full blown Lynch is something I struggle to into.

I'm still going to watch it all but I can't get as excited as all you guys though. Happy Lynch's fans are finally getting what they're after though.

Honestly even s1 of twin peaks is like this. When I first watched it, I was put off by all the cheeseyness and occasionally bad acting/writing, because it was my first experience with lynch and I couldn't tell when it was on purpose, and when it wasn't. I was trying to figure out what was "good" and what was "bad" and what the story meant, and I dropped the show after episode 2.

A year later I rewatched it and, while I didn't turn off my brain, I didn't make a concerted effort to figure it out, I just sort of let it all wash over me, and I fucking loved it. To me, that is what makes Twin Peaks comfy, and in that way, despite the darker tone and more horriffic imagery, the new season is just as comfy

The box is a representation of Twin Peaks. You can see that with the lights being red curtains. Lynch sets us up with Tracy and that other guy we're supposed to care about. We are believed to think they're important characters but they're bland and uninteresting. Yet we still keep watching like they watch that empty box. After a while they get bored and start to make out. This is when the monster strikes and they die.
Twin Peaks will nothing be like the old series. Fans with their "damn good coffee!" attitude will figuratively get murdered by what Lynch is about to deliver. That is what the scenes wit the box stand for.
I'm not saying that is the only importance of the box but this is what the box tells us on a meta level. It's possible there is an in-universe use of the box and the mysterious millionaire.

In all of Twin Peaks, static interference signifies the presence of supernatural beings or realms. The title sequence of Fire Walk With Me, begins with the TV static, indicating that you, the viewer, is entering that domain of supernaturality. This is why Lynch is a lover of the cinema and considers it such a profound experience because the curtains drawn before a movie begins serves the same purpose.

Lynch always works with the viewer as an active proponent in his stories. You are the receiver and just as important as the work itself. With lynch its more about experiencing that thinking "what does it mean".

I just love the joke that because he was named after Marlon Brando, Wally somehow has become a walking impersonation of The Wild One era Brando.

What makes the parody even weirder (and funny in an absurd way) is that when you think about it, it makes no sebse. Brando's delinquent biker character was meant to represent youthful rebellion but since Lucy and Andy seem super nice and supportive parents and Wally himself seems a rather stand up guy, so wtf does Wally's rebellion even about abd what does it signify?

I'd say you are comparing different things here. Lucas set out to make his CGI blend seamlessly with the universe he created, and at times he failed quite miserably, though for the most part it was fine. Lynch seems to go deliberately for a 'cheaper' look that looks just a little bit off. Intentional or now, within a syrrealistic world like Twin Peaks it works.

Michael Cera's Wally Brando was both hilarious to me and sad at the same time. Why sad? Well because I don't think that he is the real Wally. I think Lucy and Andy's son died young and it put them in a psychological state of shock where everything needs to remain unchanged for them. A chronic state of denial. I think many years ago Frank Truman hired the young man, who is/was a wanna be theater actor, to play their son in order to help them cope. I think he promised his brother Harry he would take care of them and this is his way of doing it. Truman called the false Wally to return when he heard Lucy and Andy talking about finally converting Wally's room into a place for the two of them. He wanted the false Wally to convince them to do so in hope they will start to move on and snap back to reality in some way.

I feel like FWWM is the definitive version of TP.

S3 is too unfocused for the amount of material attempting to be covered. The original seasons didn't have enough of Lynch's influence.

FWWM is like Lynch's retake on what TP should have been, but unlike the new season it's focused on Laura, and is thematically centered around that character.

I think I would be enjoying S3 more had it been more about Cooper.

Lynch uses symbolism and lore as a sort of frame, but the emotional impact on the viewer is paramount to understanding how everything ties together and what the rules of his universe are.
Which is pretty antithetical to what's popular and lauded in TV and film right now.

What Lynch does is creating a bottleneck the viewer has to get through first to return to Twin Peaks. There are moments of old Twin Peaks sown in there but it's not about those moments. It's about the change that has happened to the world we're currently living in and how we can not return to the exact places we remember fondly.
The pilot episodes deliver nothing of the old Twin Peaks. They are not what the audience wanted. They are slow, meandering and unfulfilling. Lynch wants to show that a nostalgia trip is impossible.
