Literally all he does is make shitty raw fish and be an asshole to his customers
>>
I felt bad for his sons. Its been awhile since I've seen it but i think its pretty clear that at least one of them didnt seem to be so into it

What's funny is that Japan has plenty of great food, but sushi is by far the worst shit they produce.

Yakisoba, Okonomiyaki, and Takoyaki are all food kino. Slapping a bit of raw fish on some white rice with a lick of wasabi is just trash food for dumb weebs.
>>
>>83136036
Just more "Weird Japan" mystique confusing them with artists instead of an ordinary fish slinger. This fish slinger just happened to get more popular than others. Just because a thing is popular doesn't mean it's good. Just look at fidgit spinners.

the fact that its just a piece of raw fish slapped on top of clumped up rice and sometimes and sometimes not wrapped in fucking seaweed yet people act like they're taking part in some sort of a ritual when they stuff their faces with this shit using retarded caveman utensils and treat the people who slap the said fish on said clumped up rice as skillful maestros. compare that to the craftmanship involved in baking an impressive cake or making a perfect beef wellington with pink inside. an omelette is the exact opposite of sushi, a simple, rustic, deeply satisfying dish made of basic ingredients and doesnt take a pompous fart to put together

But it literally is not anything more than its parts. The way to make an ebi negiri, in much the same way as you make most other forms of sushi, is you boil up a shrimp, slice it almost in two and then press it onto a cake of sushi rice. There are no sauces involved, there are no exotic cooking techniques, there are no subtle combinations of flavours. It's a prawn on some rice, that's all there is to it. I haven't reduced it to absurdity, I've stated what it is, I don't know how you could possibly describe it in a more involved fashion.

The second son had his own restaurant in the Roppongi Hills (which is the luxurious part of Tokyo with expensive-as-fuck apartments and houses) and probably making a ton of money each month.

But yeah his first son was pretty JUSTed, still working for his dad at age 52 just waiting for him to finally die so that he may take over the business.

I seriously dont know what I was supposed to get out of this documentary.
The decline of workmanship?
The consequences of family peer pressure and traditions?
The hyperbolic nature of revered resturants and the resulting disapointing experience when it doesnt live up to expectations? (like this documentary)
Life regrets?

This would have been interesting as a 20-30 minute doc, as a 1 1/2 hour movie, the subject, people and filmmaking isnt interesting enough to carry it for so long.

maybe nothing? why does everything has to have a deeper meaning? it's just about what's considered to be the best sushi chef in the world, that's it.
why are you guys are so fucking triggered by a documentary about a old man coocking raw fish? it was quite honest about him being a cunt of a father and a nightmare to work with.
besides, I think it was beautifully shot.

maybe because it can't hide behind sauces and cooking techniques, it's all the more important that the ingredients are the highest quality and the preparation is perfect
