I'm actually torn on whether or not to pay for this one, not because I think it might be good contrary to all appearances, but because of the behind-the-scenes plot going on that's worthy of a multi-part Spidey story in its own right.

Not familiar with what I'm talking about? Well grab a chair, Spider-Fans. This is one for the books.

I love the Raimi films, even the disappointing third one, because even at their worst, they all have Raimi's patented wit, charm, and style, and they're pretty clearly labors of love for all involved, but let's not kid ourselves- they're not exactly flawless. My biggest criticisms have always been the organic web-shooters and putting a goofy Power Rangers helmet on Willem Fucking Dafoe. Small criticisms, sure, but then again, these movies came out early in the 21st century. The world has turned a time or two since then. A few things have changed, most notably among them was when they were released, no one had a reason to want them to fail, at least no one with enough clout or deep enough pockets to do anything about them.

And so it was that we got two legitimately awesome Spidey movies and one that was a bit of a mess, but they all stood completely on their own merits without anything that remotely felt like someone pushing a narrative.
