Michael Cera's Wally Brando was both hilarious to me and sad at the same time. Why sad? Well because I don't think that he is the real Wally. I think Lucy and Andy's son died young and it put them in a psychological state of shock where everything needs to remain unchanged for them. A chronic state of denial. I think many years ago Frank Truman hired the young man, who is/was a wanna be theater actor, to play their son in order to help them cope. I think he promised his brother Harry he would take care of them and this is his way of doing it. Truman called the false Wally to return when he heard Lucy and Andy talking about finally converting Wally's room into a place for the two of them. He wanted the false Wally to convince them to do so in hope they will start to move on and snap back to reality in some way.

You are not alone. I was bored to tears. They were trying to do too much and be too deep. I thought the opening with the girl running towards the school was going to be a new murder mystery, but no. They laid out the murder of someone else and focused on some random newbies. The vets we did see had NOTHING interesting to say or do. A talking tree/arm that also has a doppleganger? Come on. It should have just been Laura advising Cooper as she did during the series.

I have very strong feelings about how disappointed I am. First hour was very slow but I figured that David Lynch was setting up all the necessary pieces (and that still may be the case). Second hour was better, but these episodes need some trimming. They could possibly work if they were edited down to the essentials. However, I’m watching the third one online, and its even worse than the first two. There is so much goofy and cheap looking special effects, goofy story elements, I’m just in awe and how truly bad this is and that kills me to say that. Very sad. I can only hope that it gets better as it goes on, but this will be ridiculed and I don’t think David Lynch will recover from this mess

Nothing officially is canon but according to a rought draft script, Sheriff Truman and Hawk find him and when he sees them he smiles because they found him but it drops the cage of spiders onto him. Then the camera would be showing the outside of the cabin and gunfire is heard.

So either way, it's fairly ambiguous. But I also don't quite understand why they'd shoot spiders either but that's what the script said.
