I find it both bad and good in equal measure.

The bad:

The Good:

Also the Recorder scene is sexual innuendo-kino. I couldn't stop fucking laughing.

I know Alien is all about sexual innuendo (the primary villain is a sentient murderous BBC that's birthed by a tailed spider faceraping you) but I couldn't help to think that scene was meant to be funny.

I never see anyone discussing the sometimes subtle, sometimes obvious biblical imagery. The one that stuck out to me was the last shot of the whole crew with James Franco in the center calling to mind The Last Supper. So if Franco is a Christ figure (he's super likable and is appointed the duty of leading them to a new land) and dies in the beginning then the rest of the movie works like the Old Testament in reverse: David and Walter = Cain and Abel, the ship that retrieved Daniels from the flood (rain) = Noah, the shower sex scene at the end with the xenomorph tail poking between the guy's legs = Adam & Eve & the serpent.

Yeah, not sure if comics count as canon but in Labyrinth they established that the Xenomorphs generally ignore synths unless they perceive them as a threat.
