Why was Lucius, a pleb, so obsessed with preserving the republic?
Surely to someone of humble origins like him, and a soldier to boot, the populares would be very appealing
>>83105415
He believed in hard work, respecting the gods, and keeping the order. He was an officer at heart.

Year of the Five Emperors, right after the death of Commodus, would be perfect.
Limited time period, no ridiculous time leaps and having to change people's ages drastically. Link to characters already familiar among normie audiences due to Gladiator. Interesting and unique period of Roman history that gets barely any attention in media.
It would have everything you need: plenty of political intrigue, interesting historical figures, a war with big setpiece battles. You could even have a sequel series dealing with the Severan dynasty.
Of course you would have to change the sets as Rome developed a great deal in the 250 years between then and HBO Rome.
For a show that ran for only 20 episodes it had a lot of SHIT plotlines.
>S2 Octavian's plotline was necessary and well executed with one critical flaw: new actor was horrid at acting.
>Vorena the Whore and her whole boring plotline, and furthermore her even more boring christfag plotline afterwards or whatever she became
>Obligatory Jew plotline
Also after the Son of Hades and Vorenus going off to Aegypt I can't say that Gangs of Rome feat Titus Pullo was particularly enticing. It read more like a shitty western than a fun Roman romp.
>>83109567
These were all in season 2 and were basically all the result of them having to cancel half way through and rush through all these plotlines which were originally meant to span 2 or 3 seasons.
>>83109315
I'd prefer they go back to Hannibal, or even further to the 1st Diadochi wars.
>>83109660
Diadochi series would be incredible, but it spans such a great length of time and distance that it would have to be done really well, or else I think it would be utter shite.
>>83109660
Crazy how Seleucus isn't even named on that map but in a few years he controlled pretty much 3/4 of that territory
>>83109710
You'd definitely have to set a cut off date, I'd go for either Ptolemy or Seleucus deaths as I they live the longest if I remember right. Or if you want to go shorter do it to when they appoint themselves kings and formally break the empire.
>Ditching hot, big titted cum amphora milf Atia for short haired, junkie A cup KANGZ Cleopatra
>who got fucked by Pullo
What the fuck did Mark Anthony mean by this? no wonder Octavian strategically cucked him
>>83109547
Commodus would be a god-tier character with a propper actor and if propperly written
Possibly the absolutest madman to ever be called emperor of rome. And the bar was pretty high
>>83109898
>tfw Ridley Scott cut out all the stuff about him killing 100 lions, ostriches, giraffes and beating cripples to death because they thought audiences would find it too unbelievable and anachronistic

He was the original chad thundercock
He gave himself 12 names and ordered the months of the year be renamed after him throughout the empire
He fucking changed the name of rome to Colonia Lucia Commodiana or something like that
t. Lucius Aelius Aurelius Commodus Augustus Herculeus Romanus Exsuperatorius Amazonius Invictus Felix Pius
>>83109041
posca crying over caesar's dead body broke my heart
its weird how they depicted slaves as loving their masters like how a dog loves it's owner
>>83110506
Shame he was such a shitty ruler. If he applied that insanity towards waging war against barbarians and whatnot he could have been a second Alexander
>>83110590
Well being a slave doesn't mean that your life sucks. If you were skilled or educated your owner would take good care of you.
