>what happened to all their stock?

I worked at a Blockbuster during the great VHS-to-DVD upgrade.

We were ordered by corporate to take all our VHS tapes, hit them with a hammer to make them inoperable, then toss them in the dumpster out back.

It was fun. Most of us kept a few tapes if we could sneak it past the manager (who was a shit head).

Most fun was watching all the people dumpster diving once they found out we were throwing away tapes. They didn't know we'd smashed them, so they were crawling around in garbage for nothing.

Blockbuster was shit. Our local video stores were far better, with wider selections, better prices, and longer rental periods plus no late fees for members. Only time I went to blockbuster was when I got a free rental under a soda cap.

I don't think my family ever even rented from Blockbuster or any other big chain video store
was Hollywood Video a big chain? the way it was put together felt kind of small-time
I think the one closest to the last place I lived turned into a salon and then maybe a restaurant or a tax place or something
it's a real shame, it's nice to have it as an experience
there is still one rental place in the area, which I think is alive precisely because it's an experience and because it's the only one
>>
>>83116609
Ah, gotcha. Honestly, after seeing what they did to that dreamcast disk I feel relieved whenever it's just the sticker.
>>
>>83113604
what? you just stop and hit rewind, you don't see it and it's faster that way anyway
if it still shows it or you don't have that function then you just change the channel or even look the other way until it stops

Firstly,

why did you get that free portrait of the queen? Just because you could?

Secondly, how can you just... put in a VHS and watch it? There's not enough stimulation for me to just sit and wait to be entertained by a movie anymore. Maybe when I was a kid, but not now.

Third, I think the most recent movie you have on VHS is Spider Man 2. I always find it interesting to see how long they kept making VHS's by trying to find movies that seem to ME to have come out not that long ago... but yeah in SM 2's case, it came out 12 years ago. Doesn't seem like that long. Crazy.
