Here's a generalisation and I bet you will say it doesn't apply to you, and maybe it doesn't, but I bet it applies to a lot of people on 4chan

Think about how many people on here came to like lots of things that have black people in them (The Wire, Fresh Prince, lots of music involving black people, whatever)

And think about how many of those same people are now racist, due to the alt-right / higher racial tensions / etc.

I just think it's interesting, because if a show like The Wire came out today, the most popular reaction among 4chan would probably be "BLACKED" or something like that - people would just be racist instead of engaging with it.

Having said that, if The Wire was made today, it would probably include some racialised message about how black people in America are so downtrodden - but The Wire didn't do that, it didn't have a preachy moral message about racial injustice whatsoever. It was just a crime drama, like any other crime drama, like The Sopranos - not making any moral pretences at all, but just striving to show this criminal underworld in a realistic light. And not really caring about race.

Anyone else think the same thing? Or am I being stupid here?
