I'll start:
1 - Die Hard
2 - Predator
3 - Robocop
4 - Terminator
5 - Lethal Weapon
6 - Terminator 2
7 - Under Siege
8 - Commando
9 - (tie) Predator 2/Robocop 2
10 - Out for Justice

Why has the pure action movie genre disappeared? Id see an action movie in theaters for the spectacle. Will the genre make a comeback? Can John Wick reignite public interest?

I'm as much of a Predator 2 guy as anyone, OP, but I don't know that it belongs in the top 10.

Robocop 2 was a mess. The kid was annoying as fuck and including him in the story was just stupid. It also basically ignored the ending of the first movie.

Fast and furious is pretty much the modern day action flick now. Mission Impossible has been pretty action centered lately too though but they don't release enough. I wish it would make a comeback, as much as I love pure kino, eating popcorn watching dudes kill other dudes is so satisfying

not a single john woo movie...
>>

>missing the raid
>>
1. Showdown In Little Tokyo
2. Terminator
3. Die Hard
>>
>>83067317
This. The Raid is an actual action film unlike half of those phony action films you listed. The Raid 2 is trash though

>10 - Out for Justice

That's a weird inclusion.

Might as well include most of Steven Segal, and Jean Claude Van Damme's resume.
>>
>>83067598
Van Damme is kino though.

This.

1 - Total recall
2 - Die hard

This scene is why it's on my list. One of the most memorable action scenes ever.
>>
>>83065331
1. Terminator 2
2. Die Hard
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark
4. Hard Boiled
5. Predator
6. Escape from New York
7. Mad Max 2
8. The Matrix
9. Aliens
10. The Raid

Honorable mentions: Mad Max: Fury Road, Empire Strikes Back, Bourne Ultimatum, Bullit, Casino Royale, Commando, RoboCop, Lethal Weapon, Logan, Total Recall.

I will never stop pushing The Rock as one of the GOAT action movies
>>

I can't argue with any of your choices as being great, but Aliens, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Empire Stikes Back aren't really what I mean by pure action genre. those are horror action, action adventure, and space western
>>
Pleb General

>ME LIKE LE GENRE MOVIEZ!!!!!!!!!!
>>
Commando is too low.

Lethal Weapon 2 had better action.
>>
>>83069108
I assume you are OP? That's a fair argument you got there but you have Terminator 1 and Lethal Weapon in your list, those are Slasher an Action Comedy respectively (hell you put T1 higher than 2 even though 2 is the one with (more) action.

The favorites - mostly in no particular order

1 - Die Hard
2 - Hard Boiled
3,4 - John Wick 2,1 (I really love how 2 became self-consciously over-the-top)
5 - Escape From New York
6 - Fury Road (Mad Max 2 is badass as well; Fury Road is just more saturated with awesomeness)
7 - The Matrix (too bad there was only one)

Terminator 2 is an awesome movie that I enjoy to rewatch, I just don't have a deep love for it.

>Why has the pure action movie genre disappeared?
Here's my theory, and I will be glad to see why I'm wrong. My idea was that pure action is essentialy a mid-budget movie - not some indie shit, but not some capeshit either. Just like the other genres, working best in mid-budget, those movies are dying out. Movies dying out can be replaced by TV series, but pure action isn't really suitable for this format.

>Can John Wick reignite public interest?
I remember watching it in awe, thinking "OH MY GOD DID THEY SHOOT A PUREBRED 90S ACTION"
Yep, they did. I hope it will. Fury Road also performed well enough to show that people want action.
