You faggots are a bunch of blind followers of Lynch who won't accept that "Twin Peaks: The Return" is a total disaster. This is the final proof that rebooting old series is a really *really* bad idea, since not even Lynch can do it right.

TPTR is not Twin Peaks: it's a bland, sad, and pathetic attempt of self-celebration in the form of an artificial continuation of an unfinished old work. So old that you, the creator, can't even remember correctly. Ironically, at a metalanguage level, the topics of this reboot perfectly reflect what reboots per se are: concretely, a doppelganger, product of a creative void. It's not Cooper who is lost here, it's David Lynch himself. Maybe this is his unconscientious talking...

I will tell you one thing, /tv/: after watching the first episode I was actually deceived for a moment, as I thought it was going to be great; maybe it was going to be more in the direction of FWWM, but I was OK with that. But then, after episode two I started to realize what was really going on here. At episode three, I started to cry and almost turned off my TV, as I finally understood what was happening here: it was the dead of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
>>
I agree OP. Seriously, with the South Dakota setting and the goofy characters, why are they trying so hard to be like Fargo? Is David Lunch incapable of producing fake pretentious kino anymore that he has to rip off real kino?

>hahaha #LYNCHED normies BTFO pleb filter confirmed take that comfyfags
shit, it's really kind of awful thus far. First episode was by far the worst, though. It's happening whether it's good or not, so might as well enjoy the ride. For me, the revival only made me want to watch and appreciate the original that much more. It's a beautiful show with a cool take on tropey characters. This just seems like kind of a mess.
>>
I'm so glad that the new season is pleb filter

I can always tell between someone who's had years to digest the show vs someone like OP who only got into the show when he heard it was going to have a new season
>>
Not enough LE COFFEE AND DONUTS for you, pleb?
>>
As a side note, with respect to photography: digital filmography in this work is so fucking out of place that I almost puked into my pants. The calorimetry is very amateurish in many shots, and the CG in general is just catastrophic.
>>
>>83058842
Awful looking show, and when they cut back to the original, you can really tell the difference.
>>
Lynch began his career as a painter. During one exhibitions one of his paintings was effected by shadows cast by a projector and he started his search to create a painting that could move. This lead him to films. Going through the narrative structure that often comes with the medium he finally ended up with his moving painting with Inland Empire. A pure formalistic piece of work that can only be experienced and has no meaning for symbolism or interpretation.

To go back to Twin Peaks now is a mistake on Lynch's part. Twin Peaks had its conclusion. There was no need to show "what happens next". He should've kept painting as he did after IE and left the world of film and TV.

Season 1 is where the emotional investment happens. You can't have the more interesting stuff later on without having likable characters around, and that's hard to do. My only problem with the new series so far is over saturation.
There's too much of the red room. The scenes from the S2 finale are probably my favorite hour of television. Every single bit from the red room in the original series is weird, recognizable and instantly iconic.
There's as much red room scenes in the first 2 episodes of S3 as there are in the entire run of the original series. They kind of mesh together, and there's nothing new or interesting about them. Do you think based treeman will be as well-remembered as Laura's scream scene?
It's just reusing an iconic set in a derivative manner.
The first 15 minutes of episode 3 are more like what I'd want to see.

For me, it's because the being or entity or phantom or whatever it was is so alien to Twin Peaks, despite how weird that world already is. A deformed, mutilated, faceless thing in darkness that killed two kids for no reason, with no explanation, no rationale.

>>
>>83057043
OP you could not be more wrong. The overarching theme of twin peaks has always been the duality of good and evil. Lynch is bringing it to its literal conclusion by bringing two dale coopers into the real world. Twins. I fucking predicted this is where the story would go, you see the duality of good v evil all over the various plot lines. It even extends into a metanarrative by contrasting seasons 1-2 with FWWM. Laura Palmer's suffering is what enabled the events of the television show to take place, Cooper is the physical manifestation of the good that arrives in response to the evil, in this case Laura's murder.

>So if people can just drop back into the real world from the black lodge, could Laura and Leland come back?

Cooper couldn't just drop back in though, he had to take the place of someone else. He was supposed to replace his doppleganger, who would get sent to the Black Lodge in his place, but instead he replaced Doug Jones. Doug Jones was apparently "manufactured" for this purpose by entities unknown. So Cooper was tricked into replacing Dougie instead of replacing his doppleganger.

Think there's a connection between Bad Dale and Dougie regarding the two outlets? The blind Asian implied Cooper would die if he went through the 15 outlet, and shut off the machine. This replaced the 15 outlet with the 3 outlet.

Could she have been lying? Would the 15 outlet have led Cooper to Bad Dale, where the 3 outlet led to Dougie?
>>
>>83067160
Yeah I'm assuming he was involved with the whole Dougie thing, also Dougie was about to be murdered and only dumb luck stopped Cooper suffering the same fate. So I guess if Dougie was manufactured they set up his life so that he'd be murdered right after the exchange.
>>
>>83067106
I meant when Coop fell through the cracks, he just had a new body for a bit didn't he?

Well he was floating around and moving through solid objects so maybe he wasn't quite all there. I wonder how the monster in the glass box relates to Cooper? He shows up there and just a few minutes after he leaves it shows up and kills those kids.
>>
I had to stop after the first two episodes. Everything felt like a parody of modern tv, except it wasn't funny and it didn't have the self-aware playfulness that made the original such a great send-up of soap operas.

The original pilot was a masterclass in setting up world and character. By the end of the episode, I was invested in the stories of a great deal of the characters in the show, and it all sprung out of a simple but compelling mystery.

Why should I care about the glass box? I've seen it a hundred times before. If that's the point, if Lynch is playing around with the conventions of the "mystery box" show, he's not doing a very good job of it.

Maybe it gets better, or maybe it'll suddenly click with me, but to dismiss all criticism with "MUH COFFEE MUH DONUTS" just seems hypocritical. Lynch just spent two hours regurgitating old ideas without bringing anything new to the table, and he forgot to add in what, by his own admission, was the most important part of Twin Peaks: the character stories.

"I Am the Arm, and I sound like this:

At episode three, I started to cry and almost turned off my TV, as I finally understood what was happening here: it was the dead of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century."

I only have two real complaints.

Too many scenes went for too long. Many Dougie scenes, the Jacoby scenes, etc
Awkwardly long scenes are good for effect sometimes, but it was overdone.

My other problem was the complete 180 on the use of soundtrack. I get that Lynch is probably doing this to make our return as jarring as Coops return, but it doesn't quite sit right.

In this instance, /tv/ shows it's true ignorance of what constitutes the mythos, lore, and guidelines of a successful TV show.

Twin Peaks (season 1 and 2) is literally the colliding force of major media ideas. On the one side is David Lynch and his creepy/weird/anything can happen for any reason philosophy. And the other is network TV itself. They want rigid structure, mild unpredictability, and a status quo atmosphere. These 2 beliefs gave birth to Twin Peaks. Lynch didn't get to do whatever insanity he wanted, and network TV got a fresh and off beat show (that was very accessible to mainstream audiences).

Twin Peaks has survived and endured for 25 years because of this.

With season 3 however, those "network tv" beliefs are thrown away. Lynch can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. It's bad. It's boring. It's weird. And the fans defending this are the worst type of fanboys. They worshipped Twin Peaks from the moment they saw it, and are now embracing something with "Twin Peaks" slapped on as it's title that has very little to do with "Twin Peaks" at all.

Why is everyone so defensive of the new season anyway? I mean, I'm enjoying it so far, but it really isn't as comfy as the original series and I don't see what's wrong with noticing that or even being a bit disappointed by that. FWWM being darker than the TV series makes sense because it didn't have the limitations and was meant to take a more detailed look at some of the darker parts of the story, but I don't see any reason why the new season shouldn't be more in line with the original series.

I liked the first two episodes but 3 and 4 have me worried. This whole Dougie thing is just bad. Andy and Lucy are starting to get annoying. Watching jacoby spray paint shovels for 4 minutes straight is not interesting. The only thing I liked was the interrogation scene.

I can't bring myself to watch all of season 2. WAY too much filler. Can I just watch the last episode and then move on to season 3?

>except it wasn't funny and it didn't have the self-aware playfulness that made the original such a great send-up of soap operas
TP wasn't a send-up of soaps. What's wrong with you?

I thought the same, this is a Fargo rip off, and a really bad one.

Damn dude, I refuse to believe you watched the entire show and don't think it was riffing on and satirizing conventions of soap operas. Just google twin peaks soap opera and read some smarter people than I school you on it.

Coop was never BOB he was always a doppelganger, what the hell man.
