I could qualify myself as a big David Lynch fan but I won't, because it means nothing without a good argument. You can align yourself with this idea of Lynch going against the grain and showing the normies who is boss or whatever but if you can't legitimize your reason for why it was successful as an attack against the mainstream then you're likely just trying to claim a feeling of superiority for yourself. I have seen no solid argument from this lynched crowd as to why they should feel proud for it being good. Most of you are trolling.

This was Lynch attempting to preserve the original vibe while taking it in a massive new direction and it failed. Utterly failed. He exhausted the mystique of the original and ruined the mystery of the Red Room by declaring what it was for Cooper. The Red Room became too comfortable. The characters and the plot became too contrived and revealed. The mystery is gone. He spent it. He tried but blemished an otherwise good series.

And most of the ones that have appeared have had a single scene tops apart from those in the Sheriff's department. I'm just curious how Lynch is going to weave them together with this new heavily Coop-centric storyline. I'm more fascinated by it than any potential plot thread featuring other characters, but still, it's worth thinking about.

Basically, there were a lot of inconsistencies between the book and series. Mark Frost claimed they were intentional, but a shitload of people on here kept saying it was an excuse and the book isn't canon because Lynch didn't write it.

Spoilers ahead: But Tamara Preston is pretty much the narrator of the novel, studying a dossier that was left behind by "The Archivist", later revealed to be Major Briggs. I assume that the book takes place after the new season. It is implied he is killed by Cooper after the S2 finale in the book, and the new series confirms it for the most part. There are also weird historical inaccuracies, one of which being that Lana Budding won Miss Twin Peaks, instead of Annie like in the series. With the talk of "Missing" info regarding Cooper this season, I think that will come into play.

Tell me if I have the main plot correct so far.

Evil Coop has been killin dudes over the past 25 years while Coop has been stuck in the black lodge. Evil Coop teamed up with a billionaire ex-FBI agent to set up some box that will catch Coop if he tries to come back. Autist that watches the box leaves the room right before Coop comes through. Evil Coop created Dougie to be taken back to the black lodge in case Cooper succeeds in coming back. Coop comes back and Dougie gets taken to the lodge. Evil Coop knows Coop is back and one of them has to die now.

The only thing that's a mystery so far is what that thing was that killed Autist and Tracey. Was it Arm's Doppleganger? Did it follow Coop out of the Black Lodge?

Later episodes gave me more hope but the full on wanky surreal stuff gets old pretty quick when there is literally no development of anything related to characters or story.

What was so great about twin peaks was having the more comfortable environment to be degraded/make you uncomfortable and from their to have occasional more surreal stuff so it acutally feels surreal.

If everything is constantly surreal with not much to actually hold onto then it just turns into wank.
